ok, seriously these ads have to be the strongest ones microsoft has put out in years. i was fine with gmail, but i think im going outlook. if you dont know what im talking about, this probably sounds weird or bias, but im not trying to be anything.

they are KILLING it, just sticking it to gmail in such a subtle yet strong way... beautiful looking ads too... but i think the biggest sticking point is they claim to stay out of your email. and, i love how they spent a whole ad just showing how easy it is to DELETE the mail you dont want :D

Link?

I think Outlook is an awesome email service but it's pretty much unresponsive on IE6. Gmail still works fine.

Played a bit with the interface and it does look good.

Too bad I can't download that as an open source php script and run it on my own pop3/imap server.

yeahhhh thats not even close.

Nice job for MS to be using the corniest wording and actors in a commercial ever btw.

As long as it's better than OWA 2010 I'm happy.

Their public web UI is the same as OWA 2013, right?

I signed up for an account when they first started offering them but hadn't really used it. I have been thinking about shifting to Outlook.com as I look to kind of break some dependence on Google. That first video has me considering it a lot more. To delete a bunch of mailing letters on GMail now, I search for th sender, check the 'all' box and then scan the email to make sure I didn't get anything by mistake. The way in that video looks way simpler.

For those wondering, don't make the mistake I did and type in Scroogle dot com without the D...highly NSFW. D:

I like the interface, but I do prefer the Hotmail style more. I'm not a huge fan of the minimalist theme Microsoft's going for with the Office 2013 suite and other products.

I like the new theme, but I don't care about any of the major webmail services until they start end-to-end encryption via SSL.

I signed up for an account to play around with it (and because I needed a new junk email anyway). It looks pretty, but as an interface designer, I think that it lacks a lot of the polish that Gmail has, especially on mobile devices. I made a quick comparison; take a look and you'll probably get what I'm talking about.

I do like Outlook's message composition a bit better than Gmail's. My only qualm with it is that I have to click the CC and BCC buttons to get the additional fields, even though there's a ton of vertical space in the left column that could be used to always display the fields.

Okay, so the UI has some animations in it. How exactly is it "killing" gmail again? Gmail filters & search > pretty much anything hotmail, err, I mean "outlook.com" has. And gmail has far less wasted space too.

I just "upgraded" my hotmail to Outlook... not bad. I have yahoo and gmail accounts, but was always too lazy to switch over or they didn't really seem much better.

Outlook is okay. It's familiar and that's the main thing it has going for it. Now work email, online web-work-email, and personal email all look the same.

This might be a good thing because Hotmail never worked properly at work. Stuff wouldn't load, I couldn't log in, etc.

Gmail is probably the number 1 Google service that I happily use. It'd be the last thing of their various offerings that I'd give up.
