BTW, in reference to the flaming headless body (dunno if that was a metaphor ), I've been down there once before and know full well that walking around aimlessly down dark alleys and such isn't the brightest idea. New Orleans seems like the kind of town where I don't want to hook up with any of the chicks either since I'll probably end up awakening in an alley naked with stitches holding me together and a piece of paper in hand that reads, 'I hope you didn't need that kidney'.

Well, you're a month off for JazzFest, unfortunately. And a week too early for French Quarter Festival.

However, the Crawfish Fest is that weekend in...Chalmette *cue scary music*

There are lots of good suggestions so far, I'd also check out some of the places in the Marigny. You'll avoid the real heavily tourist places. Check out some shows at Dragon's Den, DBA is a very cool bar if you like beer (huge selection).

Unfortunately, I've been out of NO for over 2 years now, so I'm a bit rusty with helping out tourists. Since you have been before, did you have any pre-existing ideas of what you wanted to do (besides get plastered)?

Not really. I'd actually just like to take a day away from the booze and explore the history of the city. I was told there are some nifty city tours via bus/trolley and I thought I might take one of those. I also heard about some of the haunted tours. A lot of the guys going on the trip are NO vets (they try to go there once a year) but I think there knowledge is still somewhat limited to all that Bourbon St. has to offer.

I guess I'm more looking for ideas on things to do during the day that don't involve beer. I'm sure I'll have no problem finding beer when I want it.

Well if you wanted to make the trip out to Chalmette, you could booze it up and eat crawfish all day at the crawfish fest and make a trip to the battleground to learn about the Battle of New Orleans.

I'd recommend a walking tour of the Quarter. I don't know about the Haunted tours, those always seemed so corny to me. Check out the zoo and the aquarium too, they're both excellent.

I was down for Jazz Fest and Mardi Gras... You have to walk out BOurbon Street and go to John LA"Feate's (SP???) it's a great bar.... >My one buddy is a War History Buff, he went over to the D Day Museum and loved it.... I was recovering from a Hang Over at the time so I stayed in.........also River Walk is nearby.......... GO bowling at MidTown Rock and Bowl......

Other than that, Don't Know...

Hey I need to revive this real quick. I have budgeted myself a certain amount of spending money and just want to make sure I budgeted enough. How much can I expect to pay for drinks? I figure beer is reasonable but I can't remember how much I paid for hurricanes and hand grenades the last time I was there.
