I wouldnt upgrade if I were you. Have you attempted OCing your current CPU? Overclocking and/or Unlocking pipes on your Vid card? Adding another gig of ram?
I cant see CS:S as a reason to buy a new ssytem after only 4 months.

i have many problems with the video card and cpu. my asus AI booster says that the cpu gets to 61 degrees under minor load or running 3dmark05. my recent 3dmark 05 scores have been in the 2000 range. the 6800 sucks. i wish i could have researched more before i got it. i've already unlocked my video card and dont bother overclocking as i dont see any difference in frame rates except that my card temperature jumps to abuot 60C. when i play source, it takes me about 5 minutes to connect to the server and its not because of my isp. after i load up, i can't move and i get that lag feeling due to the horrible fps. and at certain parts of dust2 ( the entire A bomb site), i get 11 fps constant. i've tried tweaking my settings i play on 2x/2x lol. this is horrible for the 6800. maybe its cuz of my 2x512 kingston cas 3. i cannot switch windows or my system will freeze nd require a restart. and my entire game lags if i have itunes or similar program running in the background of source. any help will be appreciated. i am in great need and dont really have the money for a great system now. i got mine in august 2005.

It sounds like maybe you are getting CPU throttling issues. Have you tried reseating your HSF, and maybe cleaning it and replacing the thermal interface compunds with something better, like Arctic Silver?

I think there's definitely something other than the video card limiting your performance. I have a 6600 GT and it gets ~3700 in 3dMark 05, and the 6800 should score at least as well as it, and really it should score even higher.
