OMG ONVIA IS F#CKING BS. They sent me this:

This is an update regarding Onvia.com order #XXXXXX.

We have received word from our suppliers that the Wheel Mouse Optical
USB/PS2 on your order is no longer available for shipment. Because the
manufacturer is not able to provide us with a guaranteed date for the
item to come back into stock, this part of your order has been
cancelled. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience
during this busy holiday season.

Well, gee, its been posted as in stock for two weeks since I ordered it AND it's still on their website right now as in stock even though supposedly they were out of stock two weeks ago. I bet if I ordered it right now at full price without coupons they'd probably send it right away, but they gotta lie to save what little $$ they have left. Onvia can burn in hell for all I care, way to jerk around your customers.

Update: They just sent me the email for my other order too for an S-Video cable. Once again, the item is still in stock on their site and I REALLY doubt all that many people ordered an s-video cable in one day.

There stock is automatically updated from ingram micro. YOu might have heard of them. They are one of if not the biggest distributers in the world. They have a lot of large customers including not only onvia but egghead and many others. OFten onvia lists stuff in stock because ingram who is actually responsible for stock updates says they are. IF ingrma suddenly says there is no stock there is little onvia can do. To avoid such mishaps why not phone before you order to make sure it is in stock. Oncia has some of the frendliest csr's around and they will help you out.

Just my experiences with a great company.

I got my 128MB SODIMM, no problem, 3 days flat. It was shipped from Seattle, which is where I'm from, so Ingram had nothing to do with it.

my order... a MS Optical Mouse ordered 12/18.

>>>Hello,

Although we do not yet have a tracking number for your order, it is
currently in process and will arrive within 2-10 business days.

Well if it had been listed as in stock for a couple days and then changed to out of stock I would understand. But if Ingram Micro has already contacted them telling them its out of stock then why leave the web page up and let more people order it? One of the motherboards I was looking at which a lot of people were buying quickly switched to out of stock the next day, but the two items I ordered(mouse and s-video cable) are still there. Two weeks is plenty of time to update your webpage and contact your customers about it. And two weeks is about 12 days longer than acceptable to ship an item you do have in stock(as in Password's case). They are one dead company, market cap of only $75m even after yesterday and today.

Somethin' smells funny. I got an email telling me that my floppy drive was out of stock today, but they sent my 99 cent pencil lead that floated the total over 15. Cest la vie.

I think I'll return the lead for a refund. :D

sure, Onvia sometimes has great prices and free shipping but buyer beware. I order from them ALOT and EVERYTIME they have screwed up my order some way or another and their CS sucks. As a matter of fact I tried calling them today (about an order that was suppose to be cancelled a month and a half ago but yet I have not received email confirmation "in two days" ha, and my credit card has not been refunded). Well after being put on hold for 32 minutes (my phone has a timer), I am hung up on. I have tried calling back repeatedly and keep getting a busy signal.

They even tried to scam me a few weeks ago. I ordered the ATI TV Wonder NTSC (original, not the Value Edition). I get the package after it was mistakenly put on back order for 2 weeks. It is the correct box, and when I open it up, what do I see? You guessed it, the Value Edition card. It has all the software and manual and box from the TV Wonder NTSC, but the card itself is the VE. I'm sure most people would not be able to tell the difference, so I'm figuring they made a nice little fortune off this scam. When I called them to report this problem, they said it must be the manufacturers fault (packaging), not theirs. I asked if I could just get the RIGHT card sent to me and the guy said that he didn't think that was a good idea because if mine was like that, most likely all of them were. So I just got a refund (which I still haven't seen re-credited) and now I need to find another place get this card for cheap. Any recommendations?

I know this isn't really related to HOT DEALS, but I am just trying to warn my fellow anandtechers.

Got the same Out Of Stock message for 2 orders. I accepted it on the IBM 45GB drive I ordered as that probably was and is out of stock, but I laughed my a$$ off when I got the same message for the screen protectors for the HP Jornada 548. These things are probably the least likely item to have sold out.

I'm not going to complain though because Onvia has awesome regular prices and decent service and NO CA Tax which is a big plus, and I only got charged $10.74 for my Linksys 10/100 Switch and 1 CD-R. I called the CSR and she even said I wouldn't have additional charges. Now to send in the $10 rebate for the switch...

siren at FatWallet posted:
"Agh!!! damn damn

hehe i had ordered one of these like a week ago and using 10 off 50 i got the final price to $55, then yesterday they sent me a cancellation email

and so i checked price yesterday and all and i found the price was 69 and no coupons anymore .... so i was a little pissed and i called and talked with them and they let me reorder over the phone at 55.03 ... i was okay with that .. at least the guy was nice enough

anywayz and now you people say its dropped to 49??? Dang!!"

So they have some nice CSR's but they flat out lied. Haha, supposedly out of stock for two weeks and its magically in stock the same day you cancel someone's order(even at a higher price than they're selling it for now too)? I'm tempted to get that case, but I'm still pissed off and don't want to do business with this company:(

The same thing just happened to me (and at least 3 other people I know) yesterday.

I ordered the IBM 45GB HDD from them @ 149.99 - $10 coupon. After 2 WEEKS, they told me it was "no londer available from the supplier" and they cancelled my order. However, at NO time in that 2 weeks did I ever see it go out of stock - in fact I could reorder it now if I wanted, but they have RAISED the price to $159.99 and of course the coupon is gone.

It more or less looks like whenever they get a very large demand for an item on sale, they cancel the orders and bump the price back up. I think this has gone beyond bad customer service to unethical and possibly illegal practices (bait and switch, fraud, whatever you want to call it). At the VERY least it's a horribly poor miscommunication, but in my case they flat out lied.

This is the second time this has happened to me, too... and definitely the LAST.

Here's another pissed-off onvia story:

I order an Antec sx830 around $80 bucks - 2 weeks ago.
I didn't not use any coupon or promotion crap.
I got a cancellation 2 days ago...stating: they don't have it in
stock and does not know when they will have this item again.

I check their website, it is INSTOCK and the price is $85.xx!!
friggin increased price just like the ibm 45gig 75gxp...
What a bunch a crooks.
