Not because I care about Omega drivers (normally, I can't be bothered with 3rd party crap) but in this case a LOT of people are saying they're getting a significant 15-20% HL2 framerate boost with these drivers!

Since I'm too chickensh... to try them out ;) if anyone wants to go ahead and try some almost-scientific benchmark tests, it would be appreciated. Also does anyone have any ideas on how the O-man was able to wring more performance out of 4.12beta? Did he enable some reg tweaks which result in a loss of IQ? Don't know what else he could have done.

I'm with you (as far as Catalyst drivers go) LocutusX, I prefer to use the stock Catalyst drivers.

i'm here w/ some ghetto benchmarks

official catalyst 4.12
3dmark05 score: 2752
CSS stress test: 82

omega drivers based on 4.12
3dmark05 score: 2812
CSS stress test: 83

however, i upgraded my system w/ an extra 512 RAM recently, so i'm going to account the higher scores to the RAM. so basically the omega drivers aren't optimized this time really, just a different packaging.

btw there are no official catalyst 4.12 yet - it's still just Beta. Just FYI if you didn't know. i know that ATI & Valve people have been recommending everyone install them, but they're still basically the beta.

and what settings were you running CSS at?

15 to 20% in HL2? I really don't think so.

Very, very unscientific I know, but as I switch between all these different drivers I simply run at_coast_12 multiple times.

All settings being equal, I lose 1 frame per second with the new Omega 4.12 beta equivalent. This out of my sourcebench file.

Once again the game gamma crap in RadLinker doesn't stick. At least with the Catalyst 4.12 beta and the CP I can use hotkeys to make gamma corrections (not interested in such things as Powerstrip).

It doesn't have anything to do with anything, but I have to say that one of those download mirrors really tried my patience this morning. Either you want to be a mirror or you don't. I'd just as soon not go thru nine yards of crap just to download a program. Certainly not as a 56k guy. I know that anything downloaded for free is offered "as is" and if the download makes my monitor explode in my face then well that's just too bad. I don't need to read it and accept it multiple times.

I suppose the good news is that the download tied up my connection for a long enough length of time that I decided I just as well change the water filter outside my house and take my family to Dairy Queen and then go to the H.E.B. and then burn my burnable trash (life in the country).

Oh well.

I think those that are saying they got a 15-20% boost in HL2 performance were using an older version of the Omega or Catalyst (4.11 or earlier) drivers. The boost in performance is due to the 4.12 beta drivers, not the Omega optimizations.

Yeah well, most of the people saying it gave amazing improvements were fom the Driverheaven forums so i guess that explains that... ;)

For some reason I have to use the Omegas. If I use the standard Cats my system freaks out and I get constant errors.

well i got a 13fps increase on farcry with these compared to the 4.12betas. (1280x1024 2xaa 8xaf, medium to high in game settings) and generals seems to run ALOT smoother. i havent tried halflife2 yet but when i do ill post some results. UT2k4 is around 3fps faster. i dont expect everyone to get the same results, but im very pleased with these drivers.

Um yes those are what I've been using since the day they came out... both 4.12beta1 and 4.12beta2 ;)

the point is that there were a whole bunch of people on DH and other forums claiming that the Omega-4.12beta was better than the ATI-4.12beta. capiche?

yeah, the one with only "wxp" in the filename is beta1, the one with "w2k-wxp" is beta2. basically the first was WinXP only, the second was for both Win2K and WinXP.

i think ati removed the d/l link for beta1 after just 2 days or so, so most people ended up getting the beta2 one... and the actual driver files are indeed different between the two, because they made some other changes as well.
