Seventeen lost pyramids are among the buildings identified in a new satellite survey of Egypt.

More than 1,000 tombs and 3,000 ancient settlements were also revealed by looking at infra-red images which show up underground buildings.

Initial excavations have already confirmed some of the findings, including two suspected pyramids.

But Dr Parcak said the most exciting moment was visiting the excavations at Tanis.

"They'd excavated a 3,000-year-old house that the satellite imagery had shown and the outline of the structure matched the satellite imagery almost perfectly. That was real validation of the technology."

Pshaw, and people said space was the final frontier. Apparently theres a whole 'nother Egypt underground for us to find

Given the environment in that area, suprised this type of imaging had not been done before.

Probably cost was a huge factor....and did you notice the project was pioneered by Univ. of Alabama, Birmingham, and probably took a huge grant to get running.

Wouldn't the smart thing to have done be to find the stuff, not announce it, purchase the land, then start digging and say "Hey! Look what we found!"

Still waiting for them to find Atlantis.

Atlantis never existed, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

As for discovery, I'm waiting until all the waters of the earth are mapped. I imagine there's some horrific things in the depth.
