I was out driving earlier, I'm about... oh, a thousand feet from a minivan coming from the opposite direction. I'm doing just shy of 40, the van's speed is indeterminate at that range, but I would wager close to the speed limit of 30 by what happened next.

A rice rocket swung out from behind the van, passing it, across a double yellow line. The rice rocket had a young man on it, and a young girl behind him. Both had jeans, white t shirts, and helmets - not really proper gear. I braked down to about 20, because had I maintained my speed, it would have become a very close situation.

The fool. If you want to pass on a double yellow, I would not say anything particular against it. But if you must, do so on a longer stretch of road, where you can see there is nothing nearby. Or do so with more acceleration; for which I don't know if his bike was topping out laden down with two people.

And regarding the two people, one, you're an idiot for not wearing proper safety gear, two, you're an inconsiderate ass for not having her wearing proper safety gear, and three, you are a senseless cockpouch for risking another's life. Risking your own is just fine. Risking another's...? No.
