I could equate this to a rape victim having to recall their side of the story for testimony on the stand. This is the emotional equivalent here shopping for a manfrotto tripod

My brother and his wife managed to lose a big ass stroller at a mall... They forgot to load it in the car. Good thing the kid got put in the car

hehehhe death by comittee

This lady is the exec assistant to the exec VP in charge of our biggest unit. We are trying to migrate their file shares into Sharepoint and they have ding-donged around for months debating and "being confused" as to how to find documents. I nicely told her at our last meeting that no other department had any of these issues. The meeting this afternoon is yet another delay tactic -- she wants me to build a "demo" to present to her department for them to see. It is a waste of my time.

The Chair recognises IndyColtFan, Lead PM.

Ugh, I need to squeeze some more training videos in today too. 😱 I hope to sit for the exam in July. The exact date isn't important, but the test is changing after 8/31 so I need to take it once before then and give myself time to retake it before then if I don't pass.

Just build the real thing

oh oh, do a speed contest!

You look for a file and she looks for a file. In theory she knows her files and should find it faster than you. Then you bitch slap her with your better time.

Oh, I have the site and the document libraries. The problem is that these guys are supposed to give me metadata for content types. I am not sifting through their files shares and doing it on my own. I don't have the time or inclination.

They have an application that they also use that is seasonal and we have to roll over every year. The problem is that they don't use it and rolling it over is a PITA and some of it doesn't even work. I warned them last fall that if use didn't pick up, we would discontinue the app. Use did not pick up, but I bet I get thrown under the bus and made to support it.

Dude, we make this so freaking simple. Sure, if you want, you can sit around and develop this elaborate data taxonomy with various views and metadata to the nth degree. But you know what? There is a feature called SEARCH and it pulls up the docs AND gives you previews. It literally cannot be easier.

Their big issue was that instead of being specific in their filenames, they applied all the specificity to the FOLDERS in the file share. So they literally have thousands of folders containing files with super generic file names. At our last meeting, I finally said "Ok, look, you can move your existing documents as-is into Sharepoint but going forward, *you* need to modify YOUR process.

So, metadata the folder structure into the files?
