i'm new to this but is the Nintendo DS Lite the latest?

+

are there any rumors to anything new coming out in 2009?

The newest DS revision is the DSi which is due late 2009

No backward capability with the GBA, dual touch screens, 2 cameras, and flatter.

Beyond pointless IMO.

what is the point of 2 cameras and what is flatter?

has the DS lite crossed over its climax and onto its downfall now tho?

Saw an article in some mag. Looks cool, finally will support WPA. Only bummer is the lack of GBA slot, while I dont play too many GBA games I do play GH so the guitar adapter wont work on the new DS unless they make a new adapter. Still pretty cool tho.

It's already out in Japan. Hit up eBay if you want one now.

They're not region locked? The Wii is 🙁

And the new DS doesn't have GBA compatibility? Screw that :|

May not be a great idea if you are at all interested in checking out the upcoming DSiWare channel. You'll probably be locked to the Japanese version of the store. If you are fluent in Japanese go for it, but otherwise I'd wait if you really want a DSi.

The DS Lite is still your best bet, though, as there are a ton of DS and GBA games available to keep you busy for a long time. The DSi will likely cost more than the DS Lite currently does when it comes out.

Are there even games that'll use both touch screens? Seems pointless to me if 1 isn't even getting utilized.

They're making new games for the DSi that will use both screens. I believe that the games will be backwards compatible with older DS's, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I would hope so, but at the same time if it was easily BC to the original DS then the extra touch screen must not have been that important... so it's just another BS gimmick.

Uh, has this changed? Because when it was announced a lot of media outlets made the mistake of saying it would have dual touchscreens, and later corrected themselves saying it had only one... Wiki mentions nothing of dual touchscreens either, but it does say the main CPU clockspeed has been doubled, which might make it more useful as a media player. Other than that I don't see any reason to buy one over a DS Lite.

Huh, I think you're right.

It's region-locked for DSi games, or so I've read. It's not locked for DS games.

The inside camera is a webcam, the outer camera will allow you to use it as, well, a camera. Take pics and such. Also, the removal of the GBA slot is not such a big deal. Remember, the DS is NOT nor has it ever been a GAMEBOY. The GBA slot was just a nice addition. Really, how many people who had an SP and got a DS still have their SP? I do, so I may get the new DSi and just use my SP or DS Lite if I want to play non DS games. Yes, it would be great if you coulss play GB, GBC, GBA, DS and DSi in one unit, but whats the point?

I'm not sure if I'd buy the DSi. It costs $50 more than the DS Lite and only adds a cheap VGA camera and the DSWare store. I'm just not convinced it's a good value. Aside from the lack of GBA backwards compatibility, it's also not compatible with the DS rumble pack or Guitar Hero. It's best to just buy the DS Lite and a couple of games, or the PSP instead if you're going to spend that kind of money.

There's a new SD slot too. I might have to look into buying one of these, homebrew for it could be very good.

Nintendo has reached a dead end IMO, first with the Wii which had the terrible WIImote, and forced consumers to purchase the motion plus. the games on those systems are outright lame, and the graphics on those games look as if they were 1.5 decades old.
