The band is still working on new material, supposedly daily, targeting a release of the next album sometime in the next half-year (though as has been the case in the past, we should probably wait to see it before we believe it). The bottom line is that at the moment, this site is only as dead as Tool is. Nine years ago tomorrow, this website started up; these days, it seems hard to remember a time when there was a constant influx of Toolishness."

Interesting. If only we could get a repeat of Undertow or Opiate. Damn those were the days. Even though Aenema was good, it seemed to be a progressive decline once they got to Lateralus. Still can't wait to hear new stuff from them nonetheless.

It is funny you say this... I hear most Tool fans say the exact opposite, myself included. IMHO, Undertow and Opiate weren't real Tool albums, and Tool has become progressively better with Aenema and then with Lateralus.

Personally, Maynard can take his sweet time before gracing us with another album. It will be revolutionary. He can take the time he needs to make it perfect.

I actually hear more opinions like the OP's. IMO, they are progression of understanding through time. In the beginning they were aggressive and rebellious then later as the album progress you get a sense of maturity and of spirituality. You should take a look at their reading list.

:(

Where'd you hear about this?

They've done them before. The Nurse Who Loved Me, for example, is a Bowie song iirc.

That's not one of my favorite songs by them anyway, but still, I always thought of APC and Tool as this creative mecca of music... somehow them doing covers, at least primarily, kind of takes away from that.

Cool "The Downward Spiral" is going to be released in 5.1 surround. I'm interested to see how NIN's next album will be with Grohl's drumming.

Well I think they're just doing this for a purpose. Note, they're releasing the album on November 2nd (voting day). But I'm still excited to hear the 2 original tracks. I don't know which I'd be looking forward to more after that, a new album by Tool or APC. Your thoughts?

NIN was great back in the day..
The Head like a Hole album was one of my favorite albums ever.
I saw NIN in concert three times, the first Lollapalooza, at the Miami Arena and at a small venue with Helmet at a local nightclub. Trent Reznor is a great musician.

But why do you say, back in the day? Have you ever checked out the Fragile (they're last album). Disputedly one of their best granted it was a 2 CD set.

I'm not that angry anymore :) Teenage years of angst and anger for no reason have long passed me by.. The Fragile was ok, a little to experimental for my taste.

grohl has played on a lot of records that didn't sound like the foo fighters. he has some of the best feel of any rock drummer currently making music. i'm not a big fan of foo fighters or even nirvana but there's no getting around that grohl is wicked with the sticks.
