New NF7-S System acts wierd when playing games

I just had a intel 2.8ghz/533mhz system that was problem matic so I built this system, specs are:

Abit NF7-S v2
Barton XP 3000+ CPU
2X512 Crucial Value RAM running in dual channel, both have heat spreaders
Gainward FX5600
Windows XP Pro SP2

Anyways I installed all drivers off the mobo cdrom for ethernet/sound/chipset/usb and so forth. Then I went to the Nvidia website and got the 66.93 drivers.

Now when I try to load "The Sims" in any visual mode, the game minimizes to desktop BUT does not crash. Trying to maximize it, it will show about 5 seconds of the game then boom, back to desktop. On "Battle Field 1942" I can't load a standard version of the game is it will lag at the initial splash screen and each frame take 15 seconds until they get done then it just sits there. I can load the desert combat mod pack just fine but if I were to minimize the screen to check something on desktop, then the game starts acting like "The Sims' and will just minimize to desktop over and over if I try anything until I close it out via windows.

The sound will give out at random in the game but I can still play MP3's, just not hear of the windows sound theme until I reboot. I also can't get my 5th speaker to work and have tried everything.

I believe the video drivers are to blame for the video problems. Would I be right in the accusation?
