New NF4 Boards?

Hello all, I have a question pertaining to the new NF4 boards,. When are DFI and MSI supposed to release their new boards? Also, is ASUS making a basic NF4 Ultra non-SLI board? If you had to guess, which one would be the most reliable, but also a very good performer/OC'er? Thanks.

The best one would almost certainly be DFI's offering. No one knows for sure when the other boards are supposed to get released--they were supposed to come out last month, but we all know too well how grossly behind the hardware manufacturers' calendar is. My wild guess would be that we'll start to actually see more readily available selection in February.

(EDIT: DFI's NF4 boards will both be SLI? In that case, I would look forward to offerings from Epox, MSI, and Soltek.)

The problem with DFI's boards is that they both are setup to offer SLI, now I know one is official, and the other isn't, but I don't think that'll help with pricing. I might be willing to spend upwards to $150 or so for a motherboard, but sheesh...

Hopefully we'll see some of ATI's Xpress 200 in an enthusiast package sometime soon, that should hopefully spark a handfull, if not a flood of non-SLI NF4 boards.

I read somewhere that one manufacturer killed plans to offer an Ultra board with SLI like functionality due to pressure from Nvidia. If you want SLI buy a true SLI board because Nvidia will most likely kill the pseudo SLI support in the drivers.

true, I don't want it for SLI, but that's not going to stop vendors from price gouging. Obviously "SLI" is a huge selling point, like "DDR" was back in the day. If it has two slots for two video cards you can bet the boards will remain over priced for quite some time.

MSI backed down with their SLI like Ultra board. DFI may have to eventually 🙁 but its mostly there just for the option of running two video cards on a mobo. like a Geforce and a ATI. OR whatever to have 4 monitor set up 🙂 shouldnt cost more. They said 40-50 less than SLI. Believe their shooting for a 150ish price tag. now weither that turns out to be true in stores is another quesiton

Also Newegg,zipzoom, and Frys should have a smallish shipment around the end of this month.

I expect reviews to come out this enxt week and then after that boards should appear on shevles 🙂 though not many at the beginning

The whole SLI thing is a rip off in my opinion. 2 Geforce 6600 Gt's cost $400. A faster single 6800 Gt costs $400. As far as upgrading, think back when you bought a Geforce 4. Now a couple of years later, would you want to put in a 2nd geforce 4 in sli, or just get a new card? Not to mention a geforce 4 4600 is still a little pricy. Basically you see my point. SLI is only good if you have the money for dual 6800 GT's or Ultra's. The upgrade path, while good on paper, isn't good because direct X 10 or 11 will be out by the time you really need to upgrade.

I know that's my opinion also. Why can't DFI just make a single slot PCIe 16x board and be done with it....

And just to toss something extra on that, if you really are into having the fastest, why not get a water cooler and over clock the heck out of the computer. I bet you could do all that for less then the price of an SLI motherboard and an extra video card. But then, what if you water cooled your dual video cards and over clocked them? ooooooo 😛
