Locked as a dupe of http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2278204
After a bit of thought, and someone reporting it, I've decided to lock as a dupe of the main thread. I had been sort of hoping that the rumors thread would die and there'd be a new launch thread but given that the launch got cancelled, we never had a launch. The main discussion is in the other thread so I'll lock this one.

T-Mobile has been trying to get the newer devices out there for people to keep them on their network and away from the bigger carriers who may have better coverage in certain areas.

Maybe it's me but I like the simplified naming scheme. No fancy "Facinate/Intrigue/Mesmerize (so I made up a couple)" naming schemes. Just a number to tell you how big it is. :)

Maybe T-Mobile will get 32GB version? :whiste: one can be hopeful.

Even if it is, it's still a raw deal. Considering the MSRP, it should have been a $99 deal for a 2 year contract. If they keep their rate at $20 per month, buying the phone outright/on a value plan via T-Mobile, you pay $199+$20x24months=$680

If Verizon gets the Nexus 4, I'm in trouble. I've been fed up with the screen on my Galaxy Nexus (contrast and colors are awesome, but many other issues with the OLED). And LG IPS displays are nice stuff. Typically the supplier of the best IPS panels for full size monitors.

Verizon LTE plus quad-core Krait ?! :jawdrop: oops just drooled a bit

I'd love a true quad-core Cortex A15 chip, but it'll be awhile yet before any manufacturer gets quad-core variants out - and the first dual-core A15 is finally showing up. I believe the Apple A6 is similar to the Krait, in that's it's a quasi A15 - somewhere between Cortex A9 and A15.

Not really sold yet on the Adreno 320 GPU, but I do need to do more research on that end.

If it doesn't show up on Verizon, it's a non-issue - and I'll just hold out for the next greatest (and unlockable). If it does show up - it's going to be hard convincing myself I don't need it.

Built in 2100mAh battery is a nice bonus. That means accessories will work guaranteed. It never really worked out well with accessories for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus (thicker than the GSM model from the get-go), plus throwing in the extended battery (which is 2100mAh) which further muddied the situation.

All I wanted was a stock, non-modded pogo dock. One that also didn't happen to cost nearly $100. It would have been swell to have a car dock with pogo. I don't think the latter ever materialized for the Verizon w/extended, though I believe there was some stock for the former. I dunno - I gave up looking awhile ago. I figure at this point, I probably wouldn't be holding onto the GNex, for all the great things I love about it, for the duration of the two year contract. And hell, to keep unlimited data on Verizon, I can't pay contract price anyway (new contract = no more unlimited). Might as well upgrade soon and get as much for this phone as I can from ebay.

From what they've said right now, no Nexus on any CDMA carriers at all.

I almost cursed, but they hate that in this sub-forum.

So... **** you, Google and LG.

More importantly - **** ***** ***** ****** ****** *** ** * * * ** * !!

!

you POS Verizon. You've ruined it for all us.

[sorry - I had a Tourette's moment. It sounded the same, garbled, in my head. :p]

Actually, it's probably because CDMA technologies (of which LTE is NOT - but Verizon's VoLTE isn't up yet, or expanded nearly enough - nor is any other carrier in the world using it at the moment, iirc) don't have open source code/drivers/what have you.
Google supports it, but it's not directly included in the AOSP iirc -- unless they changed that again.

Still, that's actually a major blow. I was hoping Motorola's quasi-nexus approach with the OG Droid and XOOM, combined with the official LTE Galaxy Nexus, was showing a positive trend toward supporting CDMA/LTE from there on out. Sure, the other Nexus devices, released after the OG Droid and around the XOOM timeframe, never saw the CDMA light... but dammit come on now.

Maybe there'll still be carrier devices, where Verizon sells a specific configuration of the Nexus 4, Sprint carries one, and AT&T perhaps too? That seems to be how the Galaxy Nexus program went. Google only really ever directly discussed the GSM open device, but carrier versions still came out (with Google support).

Here's to hoping a carrier version, if one comes to fruition on Verizon, doesn't see the MSRP raised a couple hundred bucks just due to inclusion of different tech. But I can't be so lucky.

Now I am torn between the At&t Galaxy Note 2 and the Nexus 4 16gb. There is only a $50 difference in price between the two although the Nexus does have the advantage of not needing a contract.

If it wasn't before, now it's totally transparent how deep the US is into the subsidy/exclusivity models, just how hard the American consumer is owned by the carriers. People spend amounts on postpaid accounts, exceeding other monthly by a large margin. Even if new technology builds bridges to allow for carrier interoperability without adverse effects on manufacturing cost/size/battery drain, the carriers will defeat it to keep the stranglehold.

People are lashing out at Google for omission of LTE, instead of pointing the finger at carriers. With the Nexus appeal and the feature/price ratio, all this phone actually says is "hey, you chose that carrier, accept the consequences we bent over backwards in the past to appease to as many as we could but we can't do it any more.

It would be nice if a site like Anandtech explores and compares HSPA/WIFI/LTE so that users can gauge them easily.

For the price of the cheapest 11" Macbook Air, you can get Chromebook, Nexus 4, and Nexus 10. Heck, many of us paid ~$700 just for Galaxy Nexus last December because we had to import. Exciting products and equally exciting prices. Well done Google.

Why would you need a chromebook and a nexus 10? They have the same processor and ram, the nexus 10 has a better screen. Just get a bluetooth keyboard or a bluetooth keyboard+case.

First tablet to offer everything I dreamed up a while ago. Next gen SoC, next gen display, KLP requirements exceeded, slim, lightweight for $400. How do I say no 2 weeks from now?
