Ok I'm getting sketchy standalone GPS performance. Sometimes it doesn't get any satellites at all and other times it will get them. ( i have the network location option turned off to test the actual GPS hardware.) I hope its just a software issue, or maybe the GPS system itself is catching some solar activity, etc.

EDIT: I just ordered that MoKo case some one linked to earlier (not the one pictured above) For barely 10 bucks shipped its worth a try.
This morning I picked up a nice full zippered M-Edge case that also allows for both landscape and portrait stand configs. It will be my default case for it for the protection it gives and I'll plop it into the smaller case when I wanna go compact.

I like Google's Keyboard, but SwiftKey has better prediction, and Swype has better swiping. But it's only a matter of time before Google surpasses both in each area.

LOL. The keyboard's something Google's been behind with since the Droid 1. True they're making progress, but in now way are they making progress fast enough. They've always played catch up. I'm glad the keyboard's half decent now, but it's got a long way to go. I'm not sure if it will ever catch up or surpass the competition.

They all have their quirks. Switftkey seems to be really bad at short word gesture typing, and I don't think the normal typing on Swype is as good as the others. To me the Google keyboard is the middle ground, good enough at gesture and normal typing.

Well yeah. Swiftkey's aim was prediction typing, and Swype was aimed at gesture typing. Expecting both of these to cross into the other's territory is probably hoping for too much. They'll be second rate, which is what you've explained.

Google is focused on traditional typing with a bit of extra features as you explained. So in that sense I don't expect them to be the king of swiping or prediction typing. But at the same time they're not the king of normal typing either. There's a lot of autocorrections or suggestions that I don't see from the AOSP keyboard, yet the spellcheck in red will catch it with a suggestion. It's kinda confusing how 1 system will catch but the other fails. Shouldn't the two work hand in hand? If you're going to give me 3 suggestions and they're not what I want, yet when I hit space, it highlights in red, and then offers me the correct option in the spell checker? To me the keyboard has always been Google's weakness.

I've seen a massive increase in typing errors since the increase in Swype style keyboards. Mainly amongst friends but you can even see the common errors in internet forum posts.

It's annoying how you could probably get a much better swype keyboard by combining functionality from all of the main 3 offerings. All of them have massive annoyances for me. The stock Google one seems to be the best of the bunch though.

Oh and I don't understand Swiftkey's insistence on trying to mash together swipe and prediction. Makes no sense to me.

Chiming in on keyboards, I've been extremely pleased with Fleksy coming from Swiftkey.

I'll be interested to try minuum when it hits open beta.

I've been using thumbkeyboard with my nexus 7. Anybody have a good case that's light? I like to put my n7 in my back pocket...

Can anyone confirm whether Google have locked the USB access to prevent connecting mass storage devices via a USB OTG adapter, like they did on the Nexus and old Nexus 7?

If so, that's a shame, as there's very little HD media you can carry with you inside of 32GB storage.

And if you got the LTE model in hopes of streaming HD media on the go, don't forget that most "Unlimited" cellular plans max out at 5GB/month or start throttling you severely around that amount of usage.

Honestly, what's the point of touting a 1080p display and HD media when the thing is crushed by a handful of restrictions that ensure it will never be able to be used the way it ought to be, which is to be free to add additional storage to be able to include your personal library of HD media?

Yes USB OTG works with the new Nexus 7

I can confirm that mice and keyboards work via USB, but my USB SD reader did not, think I need root for that.

Also not everybody has a giant personal library of HD media, nor do they need to stream/consume over 5GB of mobile data on the go. I tether off my unlimited plan if I need that much data, but most of my usage is at home or other places where WIFI is available.

Specifically for storage though? Pay attention, or you'll miss how they're removing your storage options.

Can anyone confirm that you have to root the device to enable the ability to access storage devices via USB?

The Google keyboard is UTTER TRASH compared to Swype. I used it for a week before I could no longer stand it and went back to Swype.

Only the Nexus 4 lacks USB OTG capability. And that's because LG screwed up. Every other Nexus devices past and present fully support USB OTG.

Again, not just USB OTG, but specifically the ability to access storage devices attached via USB OTG.

Read the note for the asterisk next to the Nexus and Nexus 7:

*Although the Galaxy Nexus family supports many USB accessories, it does not support mass storage devices, like USB thumbdrives.

Well yeah for pure swiping ability, I can do it with my eyes closed or drunk and Swype will pick everything up. Google does a half decent job but at certain times it just totally fails where all 3 suggestions are totally wrong. It can be an easy word and I'll have to sometimes exaggerate the bounces in the gesture for it to pick up the correct word.

With that said, I dont mind that it sucks for prediction or swiping. I find those features secondary. I'd rather that they get the basic tapping autocorrection typing down. It might not have to be Apple good, but at least half decent. Dynamic key resizing would help for example.

The Nexus 7 is one of the best Android tablet so far, I am sure users will go gaga over it really soon it is future proof and has the best hardware.

Again, I will tell you USB OTG works on both Galaxy Nexus and the old Nexus 7. I along with countless others have used it to attach USB thumb drives. So you're telling me I have some special edition Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7? Or maybe the Cnet blogger is just clueless.

Thumb drive is the most frequently used USB-OTG feature on my Nexus 7 (2012), and can't imagine it doesn't work on the new N7. And judging from testimonies of others, it obviously works. (No reason to suspect that so many people are lying)

I am squashing the urge to buy the new N7 for I want to see the phablet offerings later this year, hoping one of them can replace both my phone and tablet.

Ah okay, thanks for clarifying. 🙂
