Nintendo smiles and dives into the money bin, as usual.

MS can be happy about strong game sales, with the top title and sales much higher than the PS3 version numbers.

Sony can be happy about beating MS in hardware sales again, and that the sales per installed console was much higher than MS for both NCAA Footbal and Soul Calibur. There are more than 2x the 360s in the US as PS3s, but NCAA was only 1.6x and Soul Calibur was only 1.4x.

Hey, alright! Another month of people saying something about Nintendo "printing money", something about the PS3 doing well now, and something about Microsoft going to the shitter because the PS3 is outselling them by a few thousand units.

Yep, it's deja vu all over again.

The attach rate may be more significant for the PS3's success than the 20K extra consoles sold: if it's a trend then the extra 5 million 360s will matter less and less because apparently many owners have stopped buying new games.

Someone sounds bitter, MS deserves to get romped until they fix their ridiculous prices.

If you look at Sawyer's history of posts, you'll see he's borderline retarded. Just smile and nod.

Ignoring game selection, the best value system right now is the PS3, followed by the 360, followed by the Wii (which of course doesn't need to be a good value, because people will buy it regardless). The 360 certainly isn't a bad value though. If the price drop rumor comes true, it'll be a great value.

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria! - The 360 outsells the PS3 nearly 3-1 last week....in Japan.

Hardware:

01. DS Lite 60,434
02. PSP 58,501
03. Wii 38,506
04. Xbox 360 24,962
05. PS3 9,673
06. PS2 8,503

I can't remember if the 360 ever got up over 20k in weekly sales in Japan before. Oh, the reason why:

01. [PSP] Phantasy Star Universe Prtbl. (SEGA) 148,000 / 490,000
02. [NDS] Fire Emblem: New Drk Drgn &...(Nintendo) 145,000 / NEW
03. [NDS] Rythem Tengoku Gold (Nintendo) 130,000 / 343,000
04. [360] Tales of Vesperia (Namco Bandai) 108,000 / NEW
05. [NDS] Dragon Quest V (Square Enix) 73,000 / 1,019,000
06. [NDS] Sangokushi Taisen Ten (SEGA) 33,000 / NEW
07. [NDS] Summon Night 2 (Namco Bandai) 30,000 / NEW
08. [WII] Wii Fit (Nintendo) 27,000 / 2,470,000
09. [WII] Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo) 23,000 / 1,656,000
10. [PS3] Soul Calibur 4 (Namco Bandai) 23,000 / 97,000

Now if MS can keep releasing games like Tales of Vesperia every week they may have a shot in Japan! ;)

Ignoring carrying capacity, my Honda Civic is easily the best value system, followed by the Cadillac Escalade.

Well, I didn't want the fanboys to get their panties in a wad. ;) I think you know how I feel about the game selection, but that's just my opinion. Your analogy is imperfect, because you eliminated a characteristic of the hardware you get, which I didn't do. I was merely saying that for the hardware you're getting, the best bang for your buck is the PS3. I don't think anyone would dispute that; there's a reason why Sony is (probably) still losing money on every PS3 they sell, and Microsoft is at least selling the 360 for more than cost of goods sold, even if warranty repairs wipe out all of their profit.

Back to the original point - Xbox 360 may not look like a great value compared to the money-losing PS3, but it's far from a bad value.

So why do you think the Xbox 360's prices are ridiculous?

It has been out for almost 3 years and no real significant drop, there should be a 199 console and the top tier should be cheaper than the PS3, bluray alone makes the PS3 more of a value. Plus you can swap out hard drives in the PS3, MS prices are insane.

Don't forget the RRoD issue. IMO, the rest is forgiveable.

No surprise. Nintendo whooping arse, 360 beating PS3 in software, and the PS3 lagging the competition.

MGS4 making a 1 month blip in the top 10 has to be troublesome for developers and Sony. Means there is no longevity for games on the PS3 platform.

That is how it is for most console games. The sell great the first month they drop off dramatically. Especially non casual friendly games, nothing new at all there.

Also the PS3's software sales are good, considering that MS has twice the 360's out there then there are PS3's.

Big titles can stick around for 2-3 months on the 360 and Wii. COD4 was on there for about 6 months for the 360.

Keep in mind that a good portion of the PS3's for last month could have been the MGS4 bundle.

Could be, but the PS3 outsold the 360 for the first half of the year as well as in July.

MGS bundle vs. 20 GB 360 fire sale -- Fight!

If MS really will be pricing the 60 GB at $299 next month that might put it back ahead of the PS3 again. Lack of blu-ray will hurt it at xmas though, when people are out buying new HD TVs and movies to show them off.

I think she was making that comment in response to MGS4 dropping out of the top 10. It seems NPD doesn't count bundled games anymore, because Wii Sports isn't on the list. So MGS4 may have sold more than the games on the list if you include bundles.
