Yeah, I know. Different style, different taste.

I personally prefer a more severe approach to things.

fixed

there is no way the extraneous aluminum bits are minimalist. and the horrendously overstyled air vents that look like they came off the titanic are not minimalist either.

and the tt is fwd, it isn't a sports car.

Different strokes for different folks. And the only TT I would have would be the 250HP AWD model with DSG 😀

I'll wait for official pics from the auto show. Not really sure, but these seemed doctored up around the front facia. The headlights and side turn indicators look tacked on. There is also some weird discoloration around the side fenders and inside the headlight bezels.

This is probably the actual design, but the few flaws are distracting enough for me to wait for something official.

I don't think they went far enough to make it masculine looking. The Pontiac and Saturn beat it in this very important respect.

My guess is you won't be able to get one for under $20K, so I'd rather invest $5K into my 1992 Miata. It's already got chrome doorhandles and silver around the dials 😛

If it were up to me, the next Miata would be a feather-weight, torqueless, high-revving screamer--essentially a motorcycle for people with poor balance

That's what this is for. 😉
Ah yes, the Atom...I love that thing 🙂

But for that price, I could probably buy a Miata, gut it and fabricate a carbon fiber body for it and put lasers on it and shit...

Umm, the pics are in the latest April issue of Motor Trend. They have an exclusive story. Go check it out 😀

I forgot MT is the bastion of journalistic integrity. They would never doctor up a photo for an exclusive.

I'm not denying that the pictures are legit - they look way too real. I'm just saying something about them seems wierd around and inside the headlights and fenders. Almost like they were touched up before giving them out to the press.

Definitely...I prefer minimalist to the extent it's borderline boring.

The TT does get routinely smoked when matched up against pure roadsters in the car mags, but to be fair, it is available in an AWD version...

The new TT 3.2 with the DSG transmission is quite a peppy car.

Looks good. A return to the 1st gen roots, which were the best of all Miatas.

I have some complaints, but beatle already brought them up. This trend by some manufacturers towards altezza-style taillights has got to to stop. They are hideous on a 92 Civic and worse on a brand new Miata, Mazda6, or Evo. The door handles should be chrome, and the wheels should be 16 inch. Otherwise, it's good. I think Mazda is just bowing to market pressure that simply does not exist for this particular car... and that's just stupid.

As for the rumored specs, I can barely get the math to work for 170 hp and only 136 ft-lb with only a 6700 rpm redline. The only way it works is if the engine hits max torque right at that relatively low redline, and that (quite frankly) would suck. Better to have a nice flat-ish torque curve to work with on the track with that lightweight car than some peaky POS designed purely to market a particular hp number...

Actually, a rising torque curve makes for a really fun to drive car. A flat torque curve may be more desirable for everyday performance, but it's more fun to rev an engine with a curve that increases with rpm. JMHO, of course.

All past Miatas have had rising torque curves and it lends itself to a very fast feeling car without the speeding tickets. 🙂 I've taken a few people for a ride in my car and they get excited when I rip through first gear and shift to second. "Whoa, you might want to slow down there, the speed limit's.... oh, we're only going 35." 🙂

i think it looks great
looks a bit like an s2000....

and the front of the car seems to draw a tiny tiny tiny bit of influence from aston martin if you ask me...

The all-black interior looks hot. The beige-orangish interior makes baby Jesus cry.

I don't what the big deal is with the rear lights... they could be better, but I've seen far, far worse.
