It's got more buzz in the industry, more people know about it, and it sells more. The point is, who cares? It just seems like an empty point to make in the first place. The Ford GT has been much lauded for what it's done at its price point, but I'd hardly call the cobalt a success over the GT just because it sells more vehicles.

again, your comparisons are worse than the comparison made in the article.

it is realistic to compare the mustang and the 300 because of many of the points already mentioned in this thread.

both rwd
both good performance
similar pricepoints
both v8 engines
similar "image"

when you compare the cobalt to the ford gt, it's just ludicorous.

again, which do you think is a more similar comparison?

ford 500 vs chrysler 300

OR

Ford Mustang vs chrysler 300??

it really depends on what's more important to the particular buyer.

for someone looking for a high performance rwd v8 vehicle the ford 500 wouldn't even make the list.

let's look at it from a buyers perspective.

i'm a buyer for a new vehicle, here is my list of requirements.

1. v8
2. rwd
3. retro look

based on that list is there any possibility that both the cobalt and ford gt could make it?

however, is it realistic to put both the chrysler 300 and mustang on that list?

if so, than the comparison is valid to that buyer, why isn't it valid for an article?

the new mustang is really hot. yesterday 2 of em were driving behind me - a red and a black one. stopped at a traffic light, could see the red one fully and the black one partially thru my rear view mirror - looked mean as hell. also i think both of them were lowered a bit. regardless, looked really sweet sitting behind me

The Mustang continues the tradition of a successful segment in the marketplace, the 300C singlehandedly *revived* its segment.

I dunno...since the F-bodies are defunct, isn't the Mustang the only car in that segment?

WRX vs forester xt:

both awd
both good performance
similar pricepoints
both turboed 4 cylinders
similar image

You see? The mutsang and 300 do not compete. They are in different markets. Few will compare them. Maybe a few people would, just as a few would compare a forester to a WRX (both of which, in fact, are far closer in similarities than a 300/mustang).

interesting, i know someone who compared those exact two cars. he ended up buying the forester tho.

i disagree, i think more people would compare the mustang and 300 than you think just because there aren't a lot of good cars at that price point, performance point with v8's that are RWD.

That wasn't very nice. She did nothing wrong.

I'm agreeing with her that you're a pig. Understand now?
I didn't see her refer to me as a pig. I think she's also mad at the article, just as I was, then you started going off on this tangeant

QFT.

BTW, get back to us when the Mustang wins Car of the Year like the 300C did.

...Which is another reason to not give too much credit to the Stang, it'd be pretty damn hard to kill the Mustang's success at this point, wheras the 300 redefined the RWD Sedan segment by taking a huge chance by gambling on the big motor/RWD recipe.

I can't say these cars can't be compared, each of them has common ground, being the defining vehicle for the image that Detroit has been struggling to keep for decades.

so lets look at it this way, what's different about the mustang vs the 300

2 dr vs 4dr
the 300 is bigger, heavier and has more room, with a much more usable back seat
300 more luxury and the mustang more sporty? this is debatable

price is close, the 300 maybe a little higher

the whole styling thing is up to each person, mustang retro and I don't thing the 300 is retro except for the v8 rwd setup maybe

maybe you could say the 300 is retro compared to the orginal somewhat
the original 300

sure i'll live, i didn't get all huffy. but you will know i am in the room when you make unfair comments like that. just because she is female doesn't automatically mean she doesn't know cars.
and you are wrong, a male writer just might teach me a thing or two about handbags or mascara. they do research, and so i'll listen. i'm not going to chauvenistically discount his words.

with that, i'm out. you get my point. :)

skoorb is right. the 300 is based on the old merc E class, which is a lux sedan (now just a sedan after chrysler slapped a bunch of plastics on it and throw in a 190-hp V6 standard)

the mustang is a pony car. this is like comparing the sales of the nissan altima to the scion tC.
