I'm putting together a new multi purpose computer.
There will be some gaming, CS 1.6, CS:S, UT3, DOD:S, etc.
Some school work, and mild photoshop (VERY MILD)

I already have the processor,

X2 5000 Black Edition

The rest of the parts I am looking at are as follows:

2GB G.Skill ram. Quite cheap and seems well reviewed.

ATi Radeon 3850 or ATi Radeon x1950xt (whichever is in stock at the time of final order)

Cooler Master 690

GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4 AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI

Corsair 520W HX Power Supply

Lite ON DVD Burner

I will be reusing my old IDE Hard drives for the build. I will also get a good cooler, maybe an Arctic Cooling one.

Are you building a budget? Those Black Edition processors are just about worthless, and an Intel Core 2 system even not overclocked can beat it hands down.

I like the 3850 ATI card.

I am on a budget. I already have the processor. I got it real cheap so I'd like to stick with it. I don't need 12839713 FPS in every game so I'm not concerned with getting the latest Intel processor or 8800gt graphics card. I can spend roughly 600 for the rest of the parts.

* 3850 = power sipper
* 1950XT = power hog
One good point is that you didn't list the 2900XT which is more power hungry than either of them. :roll:

Looks fine, but I agree with Blain. the 3850 is the better choice.

Go for the 3850! I bet it's quieter than the x1950 too, which on full fan is a leafblower :).
