I picked these up today, MUCH better (either) than the new NIN IMO.

Checkout the Mudvayne review at RS, they said its only for "aging burnouts and the angriest of young'ns". ROFL!

What I have to be an aging burnout (not just a burnout, an AGING burnout! ROFL) or a angry young'n to listen to the music I like now, because Rollingstone told me so?

I found that so hilarious. I'm 23 but hardly a burnout, or aged.. and I might be a bit tempermental youngin.. but I like hard rock, I dont buy it to muse over the lyrics day and night in my parents basement.
Sheesh.

I havent had a chance to listen to both yet, but FINALLY some HOPE for music with these two releases. I was giving up hope.
I have every other Mudvayne release, and bought PR's first release.

Both worthy choices, I recommend both if you like to crank hard rock.

If you like these two bands, I'd suggest my old mainstay bands that I love: In Flames and Fear Factory. You WON'T be disappointed!

Well, they'd have to be waaaaaay better than any of the other albums they've put out so far for me to listen to them.

what the fvcx is that "aging burnouts and the angriest of young'ns?" I am not angry or a burnout, but I think their new CD beats all their previous.

Well, Papa Roach's "Getting Away With Murder" has been out for more than 8 months.

Which album do you mean by their first release? Potatoes for Christmas?

Granted they've both had not-so-great (but not bad) albums IMO and bad tunes..
if you dont like hard rock in general you won't like it.. you have to be a rock guy at the door.

If you skim from genre to genre.. you might like it and might not.

For me, I dig anything with drums and guitar.. as long as its aggressive and hard.

And no, I dont "feel the funk".. <- GHEY
neither do I yell "JA JA JA G-UNIT!" in my bedroom when I've never even seen the hood without binoculors.

Yeah I was miffed by it at first too.
Then I was like "oh wait, I forgot Rollingstone SUCKS!" :D

Sometimes I wonder if the reviewers just got done pulling their Good Charolette CD out, then skimmed thru Mudvayne's new CD and reviewed it.

My take always is, if its a short review like that (like 4 sentences?), it has a high liklihood of having no thought put into it.

No need for the stupid comments.
I was just saying, it isn't really new. I don't know why I see it on all the new release racks now.. and the video for 'Scars' is being played on TV. Seems a little delayed to me.

Yeah you are right, it has been out for a while and it seemed to me to be new? It is delayed a little bit it seems (the attention).

It was on the end of the rack (like a new release) at best buy.

So far I've listend to the whole of the Papa Roach.
Its a nice album, not metal enough for me.. but a good refreshing break.. but it seems pretty straight-ahead rock to me.

The Mudvayne (I've heard about a 1/4th and replayed it), seems pretty decent. Metal releases seem so few and far between, so its good almost by any measure IMO.

Yeah, Papa Roach has definitely gotten more melodic/softer since Infest. You might want to pick up their album between the two (lovehatetragedy). It's a good mix of the two styles.

I dont even know what PapaRoach I have.. I got it years and years ago..

you might be right, it might not even be their first CD.. but it was the first big one..

ok just looked it up. i have Infest. it was Last Resort that blew me off my feet when i heard it on the local rock station back in at the turn of the new millenium.

i didnt really care for the whole of the album tho. dont remember why anymore.
but i totally approve of the whole of their new album.

The Mudvayne is good, but typical mudvayne.. some great tunes, then some really really weak ones.. and alot of mediocre ones.
But I've found their last album required a few listen sessions to really appreciate it.

Their 1st album (LD50) didnt.. that whole album blew me away.
Well I prob wasnt TOO blown away, I'm not a "aging burnout". ;) Bastards.

I haven't heard much Mudvayne.. in fact, I've only heard "Dig" (along with the Resident Evil remix of it). Awesome song. Guess I'll pick it up on my way home tonight.

I can promise you'll like Happy, but the rest might take some time to grow on you.
it does on me.

i'd wholeheartedly recommend getting LD50 (the one with Dig on it) if you arent only interested in their newest work.

LD50 was interesting enough to be one of those turning points in metal.. like Korn's first release.
Thats what ppl were saying at the time, that this was the beginning of something big, or a new era of hardrock and metal.. but I've been a little let down by their releases afterwards.
Check out 'death blooms'. Looking back, ppl put too much hope in those guys.

I dont like mudvayne, new or old.

I like the new NIN, not reznors best but clearly better than the steaming pile mudvayne put out.

The new system of a down is going to own them all.

i think every mudvayne album has been awesome.

the best one being l.d. 50, that a super heavy album, and i love it.

rolling stones did a bad job labeling the listeners are aging burnouts... im not even 23 yet!

I remember when Papa Roach used to rock. Their recent songs are watered down crap, as if a studio exec injected some really mainstream pop/soft rock into it. After hearing their older stuff, you can imagine how I felt about them selling out when I hear "scars". Lame.

dead cell is a good song.

nothing to gein is another good song.

older rock is always better then newer, why is that?

we have exact opposite tastes. at least on the new NIN/mudvayne.
the new NIN has to be the biggest disappointment ever from Reznor. Worse than anything hes ever put out going all the way back to pretty hate machine.

SOAD is too frantic and fast.. and their good hooks seem used up on their early releases. havent heard anything i like from them for a long time.
i think it sounds like hes using some kind of needle drug.

i go for more the slow and heavy sound, generally.. i can go for something faster like PR's "getting away with murder" but the slower and the crunchier the better tasting.

try BLACK LABEL SOCIETY "Life/Birth/Blood/Doom" to get a good idea of what I'm talking about. :p

zakk wylde is who owns all.

YEAH RIGHT!

Zakk Wylde OWNS Gilmour ANYDAY on speed and technical precision. You wont find anyone more precise or faster.

We've ALL hear frickin Pink f'n Floyd man.. I HIGHLY doubt you've heard all of Wylde's work.
As far as playing ability, Zakk will smoke Gilmoure anyway you slice it.

Listen to the acoustic track "speedball" by Zakk Wylde, and tell me Gilmour can play that.. not a chance in hell.

I'm not disrespecting Gilmore, I'm saying comparing the two (as you did by calling out all guitarists in this thread) is an exercise in futility.

Zakk Wylde is prob todays greatest guitarist as far as playing ability is concerned. And if you dont play guitar yourself, you really won't be able to comprehend/understand the difference.
