Recently my RIO forge died on me after 4 years of faithless service. I am now looking for something to replace it. Any recommendations? I'm not looking for something very expensive but something capable of using either a MiniSD card or SD card would be nice since I have a spare laying around.

Iriver. I had an old-school iRiver until I lost it, and it was a great mp3 player.
SanDisk is good, too.

Sansa Express, 2 gb and expandable with miniSD,

I would have recommended that also, except their RMA team is BS and accused me of breaking my own player....

I think you can have a look at the SanDisk Sansa e270 , it has microSD expansion slot for additional memory capacity.

To the OP - I bet you that every reply you get will recommend a different player. I would recommend going to a site such as htttp://www.dapreview.net and just browsing through the flash players, seeing if you like anything available.

The reason I reccomended the iRiver is that I've sat on it dozens of times, stepped on it, and run it through the wash once.

No damage.

Getting a used player for $15 or so - one of the older ones with ~1gb of storage - might be the best, and most cost-effective, option.

I can't speak for the Clix; however, I know that it is not as durable.

I currently have a cheapie Sandisk, but it's just not as good. :(
