So I haven't ridden in about 6 years. I recently got the itch and Saturday I picked up this beauty. Its a new 2014 cbr650f. I got it for 7200 otd with a helmet thrown in. I would appreciate some advice on warm weather riding gloves. I went to cyclegear only to find out they basically only sell their house brand bilt. The stuff had premium pricing and subpar build quality. So now I'm basically left with buying my gear strictly online. I'm not even sure who the good online retailers are anymore. Suggestions on the best online retailers would help.

Held Air Streams would be on my list.
Some of the Alpinestars stuff breathes well as well. I used to rock the GP Plus.
 
I actually have some SIDI gloves (Cycle Gear) and they are fine.

However, My first choices would be: Held and Revit.
 
I've ordered from Revzilla and Competition Accessories a number of times.

Cycle Gear is a good place to go to try on helmets to see what fits. Their heated gear seems to work fine too. No complaints about it.
 
Thanks for the advice. It would be nice if cyclegear still carried real brands in store. Used to be nice trying gear on in store.

The trick is to ride really fast to avoid them, and have a few beers before you ride so if you do crash, it won't hurt as much.

Best gloves I ever had were "racer" gloves. I had the high end model that has been phased out. Not exactly summer, but I wore them every time. Except when it was really cold and I needed insulated gloves.

In case you guys haven't heard, cyclegear and revzilla are "joining" and going to be sister companies or something like that.

on a side note, i took my BMW 1200RT out for the first time since Oct today. man it felt great and had fun with the Sena 10C recording my ride. would love to ride to work tomorrow its suppose to be 72 but at 6am the temp is right around 30 and that fricken cold at 65 for 30 miles even with heated grips and seat.

30 is cold. I've done the commute thing when temps were in the low 30s here. Heated gear helps but even with heated grips my hands were freezing.

I was going to attempt it this morning but as luck would have it my area was under a high wind warning starting about 2pm, winds up to 60-70mph. did not ride in that, on the way home tumbleweeds were everywhere.

I was going to ride in this morning but it was raining and very wet. I'm riding to work tomorrow for sure. It has been warm here lately.
 
Revzilla FTW. Just make sure the gloves have vents in them. Mine have some raised plastic openings on the knuckle and wrist with a small metal mesh grill over the opening to let air flow through. They are full gauntlet leathers and I never had many issues in the summer with them, even on 90+ degree days.

I did have a pair of short gloves (think what wide receivers wear) that had more of a mesh liner all around except the palm and were very cool in summer. However, if I ever went down I would not be very confident that they would protect much of anything.

i have the same type with the knuckle venting and it does work well. im a big fan of gauntlet gloves.
 
why do you need gloves in warm weather?

anyway, i used this sort of soccer gloves

but they were more for show than anything; never really needed them, and when the temperature drops, they won't help.

if you want gloves that actually keep your hands war, they need to be thick enough to prevent heat escaping; which means moisture/sweat building up, and they are uncomfortable anyway. also, they will reduce the control you have over the bike.

(the gloves i used were pretty good on that side, perfect fit + grip and didn't sweat)

I used to work with a guy who had about that same level of understanding of motorcycles. We were both riding in to work one morning and arrived at the same time. It was January and temps were in the 30s and I commented on how cold my hands were, I was wearing my Dainese leather gauntlets, to which he replied that his hands were nice and toasty because he picked up a pair of ski gloves at Walmart for $25. I asked him how well he thought those gloves would protect his hands if he gets in an accident? He replied, I don't plan on getting in an accident... he clearly doesn't get it.

Ever see what happens to your bare hands when you slide them across pavement at 30mph? How about 60mph? Leather gauntlets will prevent that.

You don't dress for comfort or style on a motorcycle. You dress for the crash. I see idiots in t-shirts and stupid leather vests, jeans and half helmets on Harleys all the time. A guy I work with dresses like that and he got clipped by a car one morning on his commute to work. His face hit the pavement (open face helmet) and he had some other relatively minor injuries, he was lucky IMO. He wasn't a very attractive guy in the first place fortunately enough. 😀

the reason being that, your hands will not have much weight pushing them down on the pavement. therefore they skid, not grind.

i would wear my full gloves when going on the highway (which was a rare occurrence), but used my bike mostly in the city; where, i would add, half helmets give you a far better awareness of your surroundings -> less accidents.

i've had 3 accidents in my life.

1) guy stops at stop sign, waits for me to get close, then steps on the gas.
80+yo driver who subsequently had his license taken away. bike destroyed. i was in full helmet, gloves and jacket with back protector; jeans + trainers.

2) too much gas at the traffic light, bike spins out under me. scratches to the side of the bike.

3) got clipped by another bike and slid 50 yards, slight scratch to the palm of my hand, slight contusion to my leg.
would like to blame it on him, but then again i had my eyes closed because i had actually decided to try to kill myself. go figure. maybe that's why i was riding in the first place.
protip - stay away from women that you know will break your heart.
broke the fairing of my superblackbird and the clutch lever.

i hate to be *that* guy but this is the reason why i am now a car person and not a bike person; if you are not prepared to drive defensively, don't ride a bike.

i spent ten years in an insane traffic that you guys have never seen (pre-Rutelli rome), first four on a kitted out moped. driving insanely, with complete disregard for the law, drunk or high, often with another person's life at my responsibility.

we all did. every single one of my friends did. we lived in a shit country full of potholes, oil from buses, tram tracks, and criminal drivers, with zero protection.

preparing for a crash is idiotic; the only way to not crash is to be aware of everything, and to never be in a position where you can be hit, because they will, hit you. play the brain game or die. and you can die even with full protection, there's nothing you can wear that will protect you from getting run over by a bus.

if you want to go somewhere, and be relaxed, you need a car.

I'm not a rider but that mindset is naive at best. You can't avoid every accident nor can you always know what's coming. Defensive driving and being aware of surroundings is one thing but other drivers are completely unpredictable.

By that token, do also choose not to wear a seat belt? You could make some money by removing and selling all those airbags you don't need either....
