Machine runs good on new hard drive now,I want to swap out motherboard.Original board is ecs kt600-a new one is asrock alivenf6g.How do I wipe out all the old motherboard stuff and let xp reinstall its stuff?
TIA,Allenv

so, you have a new hdd that's currently configured and running w/ your old mainboard, right? and you have a new mainboard that you haven't setup yet, right? are you wanting to pair your new HDD (that's currently up and running w/ the old mainboard) w/ the new mainboard? if so, you're gonna have to back up the data on the new HDD, hook it up to the new mainboard and reinstall the OS; changing mainboards isn't like switching out a CDROM or floppy or something.. you can't just switch mainboards/HDDs all willy-nilly. :Q

It's about a 90% chance you'll be able to swap motherboards. Once switched, boot to the xp cd and perform a repair install.

i just did this recently on an old gateway. new mobo, new processor, memory and kept the same harddrives. i put this stuff in a new case though. anyway you need to change the drive controller to standard dual in the device manager then shut it down. remove the drive then install it in the new case and turn on the pc.

mine worked like a champ and still is. if you are not putting this into a new case then you probably need to do the xp repair/install process. different mobo and chipset so xp will not recognize it as "home". it will know that significant changes have taken place and tell you.

good luck !
