New motherboard

I have a VPR Matrix 2.53p4. My power supply crapped out on me earlier this week and I found out yesterday that it fried my motherboard. My local computer repair shop said that I would have to buy a new copy of windows xp because my system restore disks would not work with the new motherboard. But, my friend who is a network engineer says that my restore disks will work. Even though I will be getting a MSI 865 board instead of another intel 845. So does anyone know who is right?

Look carefully at your restore CD and see what it's doing. See if it's just doing an image copy or if it is running WinXP's Setup program.
. That shouldn't be too hard to figure out. IAC, I would try using the restore disk first before laying out any money - methinks your tech is just trying to up his profit...
. Also, insn't VPR a CompUSA or Best Buy store brand? They haven't been selling those all that long, so might it not be still in warranty?
.bh.
Hoping for some :sun:!
