new motherboard windows wont load

i just installed a new motherboard and cpu. now when i start up my computer windows xp will not load it just restarts itself, even when atempting to boot in safe mode. im sure its something dumb ive just never done this before. whats the deal?? do i need to go into the repair console or what? im not good with xp

I think the only time you can get away without having to reinstall windows is if
you replace with the exact same motherboard. Else, you are stuck doing a
complete re-install.
 
Yeah, switching motherboards tends to make windows xp not load..but rather than a complete re-install, a repair install will likely do the trick.

Yuck, I hate a dirty install. Personally, I'd just reload windows.
 
i did a repair install, but now when i get to the windows loading page it loads for a little then goes to a black screen and hangs. meh...any ideas other the doing a complete reinstall?? im trying to not loose all the stuff on the computer
 
It's a sign you need to do a reinstall.

If you have another hard drive, you should transfer over the files that you want to keep by running Knoppix or any other linux os running on a cd.
