Noob to the forums here. I was just wondering what is the timeline for release of the new 939 socket boards and will they have AGP and PCI-express slots or just PCI-express slots? I'm wanting to build a high end gaming machine and I'm having to wait on all the new tech to hit the market. Also, any ideas and opinions on things such as the best speakers and other components would be appreciated. I know I could have done a search for some of this info, but I just wanted an oppurtunity to say hey and make my first posts. Finally, where would be the best place to shave off some cost on this machine without sacraficing performance. Thanks for your opinions ahead of time.

I am wondering about this to.
939 should come out next month. "Next month will see the long-awaited introduction of Socket 939, bringing Dual-Channel unbuffered memory to Athlon 64." from http://www.anandtech.com/chipsets/showdoc.html?i=2046&p=10.
One thing is that it is not clear if 939 is going to be any better this year. Yes it will use dual chanel memory controller, but it will have smaller cache. Smaller cache will make this CPU cheaper to produce, but AMD will probably still charge just as much (I think), since it will have an improved memory controller. 939 is better for upgrades, but then you want to get PCI Express which is even further away.

This makes a choice so much harder (at least to me). Maybe overclocked Mobile 2.5 Athlon is a way to go for now? No matter what I buy now it willl not be upgradable in a year. I am waiting for the May overclocker guide to make up my mind.
