Hi,

I have now the opportunity to buy a new Monitor, i have been using this glorious NOKIA 447Z 17" for about 10 years!, this is a real tank :) and built to last forever with quality (unfortunatly NOKIA doesn´t build Monitors anymore). Well its time to try the LCD (i would say more than time! :)) World. So here it goes, i want a 22"inch TFT (LCD) Monitor with good quality for games, producing text works (normal stuff), medium Photography editing (photoshop CS2), drawing Digital Imaging Objects/artifacts and other minor task (too simple to mention). Im willing to spend around 300 Euros (means 475 US Dollars). Any opinions?, i dont know at all the LCD technology so i need help.

Thank you

PS: By the way with higher resolutions, should i give away my XFX 9800Gtx XXX (OC) 512Mb for a new HD 4870 512Mb or 1Gb? With than in mind it will be necessary to change my power supply (Corsair HX520 Modular) for one with higher wattage?

sams club has a pretty nice samsung 24" lcd for 400 bucks.

for 475 bucks you can buy pretty nice LCD ... You might want to see what dell has. Sometimes they have nice monitors on sale. With your price range I'd go with a 24" LCD.

Just make sure you check the MS should be less then 6ms if your gonna game with it.

Can't go wrong with samsung or Dell IMO.

Good Luck!

Well 24" Monitors still a bit expensive, at least here where i live (europe), the price is around 500 Euros up, so its out of my range. And i forgot to mention no Dell Monitors here too, dont know why, cause we have other Dell Stuff selling. So i think i will stick with the 22" Monitors, besides a 24" may become a monster at my desk :) or i would be obliged to get away from the desk a bit (its not to big). But Thank you for your opinion. I might put here a small list (later on) of monitors i think might be good options, and people that have experience with them might give their opinion.

A couple of months ago I was in the exact same position you are. Torn between 22? and 24? LCDs. Finally I went for the 24? Samsung 2493HM and never looked back. I believe that prices in Europe for this one are around 380~420 euros. If you have the space for a 24" then you should go for one. just my 2c

I'd get a 24" if you can. They do 1920x1200 resolution, which is the 1080p high definition standard (well, 1920x1080, but a 22" won't have the width at 1680x1050). Currently only blu-ray discs and some console games take advantage of it, but it's a good measure of future proofing. Not sure how things are over there, but 24"s have come down a good bit in price here in the states recently. Further, I believe all 22" LCDs use 6bit TN panels, which are generally considered to be lower picture quality.

Ok i have done some small research and this is what i´ve found between my budget limits:

22"

- HP W2207H
- LG FLATRON L227WT-PF
- SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER 226UX
- SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER T220

24"

- HP W2408H
- SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER 2493HM

What you all think? Any other options in mind? I repeat my main use for the monitor is Games and Photo Editing, and some minors 3d digital work (digital reproduction of objects/artifacts for my subject Archaeology)

Have you looked at the giant LCD thread stickied in the video section? It's kinda overwhelming but it helps.

sorry for not saying anything these days, but like always i question is rambling in my mind. As i told you a have a very nice 17" Nokia Monitor (no more produced), and i have to say that i have been satisfied all along these years with it (10 y) even looking at diferent LCD´s in stores, so one question pops up and i hope you all can help me understand, should i really go to a LCD or a CRT is still a better colour reproduction Monitor, even these days? Right now im using my Nokia 17" in 1280x1024 resolution (this is the maximum), sometimes i can hear some noise, maybe the age or maybe im pushing a bit the resolution to its limit. So can anyone clarify and help me with this? Actually a friend of mine told me a few days ago that in order to get the same color quality of this monitor i would have to spend a lot of money in a new LCD, maybe more that 1000 Euros (yep a LOT OF MONEY!), that said another question shows itself, should i keep these monitor for Photo Editing/Graphics Work (3D digital imaging) and buy a LCD (not to expensive) for Movies and Games (lets say 22" or 24" inch) to be able to go to higher resolutions? I really could use some help.

Thank you all for your time

Not sure about color quality in terms of just the hues themselves, but once people start using LCDs they can't seem to go back to CRT because the lights and darks are just so.. vivid.

An LCD looks really dull after you get used to LCD imo.

Also, have you considered getting a monitor used if you can find one? I got a sweet 22" LCD for $100 at the end of the school year when a friend didn't want to move it. Couldn't be happier with it.
