Well, it's that time again to get a new monitor -- but dang, it's so hard to choose one. Basically here is my situation:

I need the monitor mainly for games. I don't like large monitors, so I am looking for a 17" LCD or a 19" CRT. Money is not an issue, since I am willing to pay more for a good monitor (say $500). Space is not an issue either. Basically the choice for me is this: Get something like Samsung 172X if LCD (need fast response time) or something like Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB if CRT. The only real advantage of the LCD for me is the eye strain (or lack thereof), but the problem is the washed out colors (based on the review) as compared to a CRT.
On the other hand, the CRT seems to be more superior in all other respects, except the eye strain. My current CRT monitor is running at 85Hz, but still if I play on it for a while, the eye strain really gets to me. I wonder if perhaps a 100Hz refresh rate will solve the problem? Is anyone running their CRT at 100Hz and can comment on it?

Any help, suggestions, advice or comments on the monitors (especially the Samsung 172X and DP930SB or similar) would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I just got my Samsung 710T 2 weeks ago. It's 17" LCD with 12ms response time, 1280x1024@75Hz. Mine came with 2 pixels stuck on red.

I'm coming from a 17" CRT and my main goal was reduced eyestrain while preserving all the functionality I had with CRT - games, movies, image editing.

I have to say that I'm very impressed with this monitor. The colors and text look amazing and since 90% of my PC time, is spent on the web, I'm very happy. That said, I'm playing Halo, Far Cry, Warbirds 2004 with no ghosting or other issues and the colors in games look more vivid. Granted, I do have a bettter video card - 9700 Pro All in Wonder. So, yeah I watch TV on it too. :)

I went with LCD and won't look back.
