i personally went from a 19" 1280x1024 to a 23" 1080p and never looked back.

go for at least a 22" if you can.

Make sure your graphics card can run your games at the new res if you do not plan to upgrade it.

I currently have a 4890 OC. Should destroy that resolution. Not sure on what monitor, some reviews say don't use for gaming...

You were using a 4890 @ 1024x768? You must have been CPU limited in pretty much everything. What is the rest of your specs?

The monitor is for my new build. I am on my older system with the 1024x768 currently but I want to upgrade for my new system.

New System:
4890 OC
720 BE
4GB DDR3 1600

Just looking for something under $150 for moderate gaming. I have been playing on my 1024x768 with my 8500GT for three years now and thought the picture was great. I am putting the new system together this weekend.

FWIW, I have the previous version of this monitor (same panel, different bezel, I paid double when I got it) and it has been a pretty good match of size/resolution. I don't like 1920x1200/1080 panels below 27" as I think everything just becomes too small. It's a personal preference, but others share the same feeling I'm sure.

Another benefit besides having text and other items being sized appropriately is that you will be able to run all games on higher settings, longer, with your 4890. My 4830 plays all games of high w/ 2x AA just fine at my native res (crysis WH is from 24-30fps, Source games just fly) and I think a 4890 would be competitive at that resolution for a very long time.

My thoughts. I know others will disagree.

Upgarding from 1024x768 to 1680x1050 was one of the best purchases I ever made.

Pissed me off when my 7600 GT couldn't really handle it, but a GPU upgrade took care of that as well.

Really? I am excited. I am going to pull the trigger on that 22" and maybe see what happens on Black Friday.

I went 1280x1024 -> 1680x1050 -> 1920x1200. I'd advise to skip the middle resolution. Shoot for at least a FullHD screen (1920x1080). With my current experience I would never go to a 1680x1050 screen and immediately jump to 1920x1200.

yea i never bought a display from newegg, i did buy from ncixusa though, but i had a bad experience with them, making me wait over 2 months for my monitor. they gave me a $40off coupon for them tho

Dell usually has 24" 1080p monitors for sale at $180 (Dell or Samsung brand). I know it's above your budget but their return policy is pretty good.

I'm sure their 20-22" are much less but I never paid attention to those.

If possible, try to go for full HD (1080p or 1920x1200). I mean, if you're going to be using this monitor for a few years, I think it's well worth getting something nice. You know, might as well put that 4890 to good use.

With some of the Black Friday ads coming out, there are some nice deals on full HD monitors. I think I will be going for one of those.

I have that exact Acer model. It's a great monitor especially for the price. I would say it's definitely worth it and will be leaps and bounds above the current monitor you're using.

IIRC I picked it up for $150 last year during Black Friday so you can probably get it for pretty cheap.

There is an Acer 23" for sale on Black Friday for like $140 or less, check the deals out.
