Hi All,

I am looking to get a new monitor. I just picked up a eVGA 6800 Ultta and am currently using a Sony Trinitron HMD-A400.

I mostly game, and once in a while code/Lightwave on my machine.

I am leaning towards a 2 monitor setup (with this card) and I started looking into LCD monitors.

Now, I know the best CRT is the 22 inch NEC/MITSU and as far as LCD's go, it seems to be the Samsung 193P and the Dell 2001 FP 20.1 inch. I am looking for more then a 17.

Any first hand usage with these? I do not want to deal with alot og ghosting (cause as I said I mostly play games)

So, to sum it up.....I want an LCD if its WORTH it for gameing. Just sick of big honking CRT's :)

So any imput is appreciated. I really want to order a new monitor soon so I can play DOOM 3 and Farcry :)

For now I wouldnt get a LCD for gaming due to most LCDs having a "native" res which once changed to something else can cause problems from what Iv read.

I would suggest look at the Viewsonic P95F+, I believe newegg has it for $239

Well, I plan on playing at 1600x1200. I have a nice rig and a 6800 Ultra.

So running 1600x1200 is not a big deal. Mymonitor right now can not do it.

I've seriously been floored by the quality of my 2001FP Dell LCD.
It is true, however, that in any resolution but the 1600x1200, it looks aliased to hell, but if your card can deliver the frames, this monitor is as nice as any CRT I've seen (and I didn't think that possible before seeing this one in action).

I went from a Viewsonic PF790, which has an awesome picture, to this, and am never going back. For gaming, I don't think you'll regret it.

FWIW, I've been playing FarCry mostly, and this thing is anything but blurry.
Good luck,

I vote for viewsonic too. Bright bold realistic color and incredible separation of all the elements onscreen. NEC is a good second choice, but too soft around the edges.

Something to remember for LCDs and gaming: the lower the response time, the better. 16ms or lower.

anything higher, and you'll have ghosting. and the problem with most LCDs bigger than 17" is their weak 25ms response time (like my awesome Samsung 191T that's great for everything but gaming).

I just got a Hyundai L70S 17" LCD with a 16ms response time to replace my aging CRT, and there is NO ghosting. It was only $279.99 at Fry's (or Outpost.com).

You'll always get better color with a CRT, btw. But with some color adjusting, you can get it pretty close to your CRT.

Well, I made the step. I ordered a 2001FP from Dell. It is 16ms, 16x12 and 20.1 viewable.

Hopefully Doom and Farcry will be nice on it :)

Just for specs I have a ....

Pent 4 3.0c
Asus P4C800 E Deluxe mobo
1 gig of Crucial Balistix DDR 4000
Gforce 6800 Ultra
Dual 70 Gig 10,000 RPM HD's in Raid 0
Audigy2
Cambridge Soundworks 6.1 THX

I ran 3dmark2001 and got 18,048
and 3dmark2003 and got 12,126

*no idea if those are good)
