I second the 2005FPW, very nice monitor and if you catch the deals just right can get it at a amazing price.
Got mine for $407 and the one I got is the newest Rev which just came out at end of May. I had heard some of the earlier ones had a backlighting issue but the one I have has no problems at all. Black is as black as it gets and not one dead pixel.
Edit: Oh and native res is 1680 x 1050, 16:10. Run that res in most every game I play, BF II, Wow, Guild Wars, Splinter Cell Choas Theory, Half Life II, etc. The extra FOV from a widescreen is nice, and the Dell is very adjustable with lots of nice features like S-Video in as well as standard DVI, VGA, etc. Plus it has Picture in picutre and you can rotate the screen for some very extreme web surfing. Also you can get a speaker bar added on that actually sounds pretty nice and is very convienet for lan gaming and such. The controls are spot on and the setup is perfect when using Dvi in. Just plug and literally play.
Read Anands review on the monitor. It really is very nice. At least imo. The only one I would consider better is the 24" Dell, or one even bigger, but they do cost quite a bit more.
Also another reason to choose Dell is their excellent return policy. Most sites like Newegg and such require around eight dead pixels before you can exchange your LCD. Thats ALOT of dead pixels imo and say you end up with six then you are stuck with em, no pun inteded. But Dell has a great twenty one day return policy where you can return the monitor for just about any reason, very hard to match their return policy.
But whatever you choose good luck friend.
