Im looking for a new modem. My internet speed isnt the best 3mbps download/1mbps upload but up until about 6 months ago it was ok. My wifi has turned to crap, dropping all the time, and wired connection is super slow now. I have no idea where I should go with getting a new one or anything to make it better. I have had my internet provider come out and rewired my entire house to make sure that wasnt the issue and it does come down to my modem. Please help!
 
We used to have a ton of Netopia units that look like the 2210 that used to work fine for us until we changed providers. They are dirt cheap ($50-70) also. ADSL2+ etc.
 
It isn't bad idea. Modems put you right on the internet, the "router" which is just a NAT device adds a small amount of protection the prevents the computer for being directly scanned and attacked.
