new mobo

well im getting my new mobo in about a week, should i reformat and do a freash install of xp? is it needed?

ive done it every time ive switched mobos. i have heard it makes things easier and that there are less potential problems.
i think you can do a "repair install" of XP (which is necessary becuase it gets angry at you for switching hardware) but im not sure how successful that is as far as performance goes.
i tend to try and keep things easily backed up and like to re-do my machine every 6 months or less so i dont keep it cluttered with garbage. seems to work best that way.

yeah, i thought that if i didnt then there would be drivers hanging around from the old mobo that may cause conflicts, might as well start off clean again.

Which mobo did you decide to go with?

i decided to go with the aopen ak79d-400vn mainly because i heard the nf2 ultra 400 was the best chipset out and i liked the features of the aopen

aopen makes real solid motherboards

I've always tried to swap without the reinstall and usually ended up doing the reformat about 3/4 of the time. Quicker in the end to start fresh, like cleaning your room!

Definitely do a clean install.

BTW... good choice on the MB.
I've had mine running a Barton 2500+ @ 200MHz FSB for 9 months now on stock HSF.
Never a hiccup.
