new mobo with old processor

Hey all, I currently have the MSI K7T266 Pro Raid, using the Via KT266. This board is driving me crazy because of the bugs in the early chipsets. What do you recommend going to, the KT266A or the KT333? Also, what motherboard would be good for the 1.4 Tbird and also a future upgrade to an XP? I need raid and onboard LAN is a plus but not necessary. I already have an SB audigy and a GF3Ti200, so I am good there. I dont care about OC'ing and I have plenty of power, 430W. I appreciate any advice on such a delicate topic. BTW, my price range is under 150.

Thanks

Go for the Epox 8K7A+ with RAID. Great board. It supports all socket A cpus which include the thunderbird and the xp. I wouldn't go for the KT333 chipset, not much improvement, unless you really need USB 2. or something. Good luck on your final choice.

Just a thought, If you switch to a motherboard that uses a different raid controller than the MSI 266 your data may not be able to be read by the new controller and you may need to format and reinstall.

Thanks for the info, I planned on formatting anyway as I dont like changing mobos and not reinstalling everything. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks

I would if you can go with KT333, but don't bother waiting for it. it brings nothing to the table. The top 2 KT266A RAID boards are Soyo K7V Dragon+, and Abit KR7A-RAID. I personally would take Dragon+ becasue it has On-board CMedia Sound, and LAn while KR7AR has only RAID.

Oh and he is correct. You will have to recreate the Array, even if they were identical controllers (they aren't though) you still would need to reformat.
