New mobo (MSI) - "No network found"

Hi group.
Really simple yet strange problem.

Built another new pc for someone. Mobo (new, never installed) is a MSI MS-6714 (the link for someone reason now isn't working)

Anyways, even using this broadband (Comcast) connection in the new machine (just unplugging and re-plugging into the new mobo), XP Pro (fresh install) it just cant find a LAN connection. Bottom right icon crossed out "No network found"

Any guesses as to why? Do I need to install a driver for the onboard LAN?

Did you look in the Device Manager to see if the network adapter is installed properly? If you didn't install a driver for it it may not be working hence your issue.

If you do, maybe you need to reboot the cable modem or router, whichever the computer is directly plugged into. I've had to do this before to force the cable modem/router to assign an IP address to the new device.

Didn't look because the adapter is built in, on-board. Perhaps it is a driver....

* Onboard Realtek 8101Bl Networking
*Supports auto-sensing 10/100 Fast Ethernet

Maybe the Realtek needs a driver installed, like you said?

It may. I've been on NV mobos for so long that I expect to have to install drivers for the LAN to work. Check you Device Manager to be sure it is.

Oh and you may still have to reboot your cable modem or router.

Did you enable the NIC in your CMOS?
