as the topic says do i have to reinstall? i found a thread that says if u replace the motherboard, u should re-install.

Will the computer post and boot up without a re installing windows?

It will boot up, but windows will freeze or give you a bluescreen. Sysprep is a feature with windows xp, but I've never tried it. Other recommendation is installing new cd motherboard drivers first using safe mode, if you can get into it.

if you want to save some important data before you reinstall first make a partition on your harddrive then copy those data on that partition, reinstalling will sure format your harddrive.

Dude, stop shouting around that you need to format before reinstalling... That's so untrue! The other thread advises to just reinstall Windows, not reformatting it, but only overwrite your Windows installation (registry etc.)...

This will let your computer work the way it should... However, if you have the time and the proper backup, I'd consider doing a format and reinstalling a fresh Win XP... Say, within a (couple of) month(s) or so...

EDIT: Yay! 1000...
