Dude, stop shouting around that you need to format before reinstalling... That's so untrue! The other thread advises to just reinstall Windows, not reformatting it, but only overwrite your Windows installation (registry etc.)...Originally posted by: Erasertone
if you want to save some important data before you reinstall first make a partition on your harddrive then copy those data on that partition, reinstalling will sure format your harddrive.

This will let your computer work the way it should... However, if you have the time and the proper backup, I'd consider doing a format and reinstalling a fresh Win XP... Say, within a (couple of) month(s) or so...
