New mobo + CPU = Wont boot to windows XP

Ok i just installed a new Soo SY-KT600 Dragon Plus v1.0

with an AMD Mobile 1500+ and a 256mb stick ofpc2100 Crucial ram
Using Windows XP- Pro

I get past the start up but once the pc gets to the little XP flag with the blue thing that goes back and forth at the bottom the pc restarts itself. Always

a blue screen with words flashes but it's to quic kto read what it says. plz help me!

Is your new Soyo SY-KT600 mainboard replacing another SY-KT600 mainboard, or is it an upgrade from another brand/model?

If its the former, did you upgrade the CPU at the same time? Windows XP Activation sometimes gets upset when you change CPU models, and it doesn't always give you a 30-day reactivation grace period.

If its the latter, did you reinstall XP? Remember that when you switch mainboards, you're introducing a complely new set of devices which needs a new set of drivers. The largest show stopper is the mass storage (ie, EIDE, SATA, SCSI) controller driver. Unlike Windows 95 and 98 which can fall back to 16-bit BIOS compatability mode for these devices, Windows NT based operating systems need the driver installed and configured. If you don't, you'll see a blue screen warning about an "Inacessable Boot Device" failure.

There are two ways to get around this problem. First, before ripping your drives and such out of your old system, drop in a Windows XP installation disc and perform an "upgrade". After it copies the setup files to your hard drive and reboots, power down and swap in the new mainboard and such. When you power up, the XP setup files are already loaded on the drive. Setup will load every driver there is and then proceed to reinstall.

Another way to do it I hear is to autoboot off the XP installation CD and perform a "repair" of the system. I can't say how well this works, but I assume it would be faster, and would not require a reapply of all XP service packs and hotfixes you've installed.

the mobo/cpu is an upgrade from a pentium 3

i tried reinstalling windows xp but the pc would restart after i put in the 6th boot disk.

it was to much of a hassle to swap the mobos as it's a small case so i dont want to put the p3 back in.

6th boot disk? R U booting from floppies? Boot from CD if at all possible. Otherwise try to remake that disk 6, or all of them (i have the worst luck with floppies).

2 cents.

i just took the HD out of the pc and put it in my main rig and reformatted it.
stuck it back into the 2nd pc and installed iwndows fine.
works good now.

Got another question though if anybody is still reading.

for a mobile 1500+ what should the FSB be at stock and at how many gigs should i see when i look into cpuz ?

I've found that if you already have xp installed on a system
and you change out the mb or the video card a lot of the time
when you first turn it on it comes up to a blue screen saying the
system has been halted "for the protection of your system components"

What I have done is booted in safe mode and removed some of the
system components in device manager and then reboot and let
it redetect the current components and it should run right after that.

You probably should have done a Repair install when you did the upgrade. That would have made XP reinstall the proper drivers for your new chipset.
