I'm swapping an Athlon 64 3200 / Zalman CNPS7000-Cu to a new motherboard due to the old one being defective. The CPU/fan have only been mated for a week. Do I need new thermal compound, or will reseating the Zalman with the existing stuff be fine after only a week? The system has been running off and on. Is there a way to judge based inspection (thermal compound hasn't set / hardened, etc.)? I know to be absolutely safe I should replace the compound, but I don't have any on hand, and I doubt I could quickly get my hands on some in the small town I'm in at the moment.
