Ohh, a fancy one that attaches to the wall too! Cool. All we could afford was the counter top one, but we did get a panasonic 2.2 cubic one!

Sweet! I have the Kenmore version of that microwave coming next week. I have a countertop one now and plan on replacing my stove hood. Was it tough mounting that thing and running the duct work?

It is pretty easy....if anything, the only problem you will find is keeping it still while you're putting it up there...duct work looks like most comes out the front

I'm old enough to remember life without a microwave.

It seems almost inconceivable to me now.

easy enough.
.5 hour to wire an electrical box in cabinet. (i didn't worry about a seperate circuit)
1 hour to find studs
1.5 hour to read poorly written instructions
1 hour drinking beer
40 minutes actually installing.

Cool. I gotta remove the cabinetry above the stove to make room for it, but that's easy enough. I assume it just wires right in where the hood stuff went? Is it hardwired or does it require an outlet to be installed? I pick it up on Wednesday and wouldn't mind some info so I can prep for it.

{begin trivia}

everyone here has probably heard of the term "radar ranges" i.e., early model microwaves.

They were called that because there were basically actual RADARs.

{end trivia; resume beer drinking}

you need 14-15 inches clearance above the stove top.
the micro wave will have a plug. if you have wires from the old vent hood, just wire up a box, grounded of course.

you will need some duct tape. a stud finder will be nice, and about a 8 beers.

14-15 inches of clearance? check!
"old work" box? check!
duct tape? check!
stud finder? damnit! guess I'll be thumping the damn wall...
about 8 beers? check!

looks like I'm all set!!! Thanks for the help fellas. It's given me enough to start some prep work for the arrival.

<trivia>

Microwaves were discovered during World War II. A scientist was experimenting with magnetron tubes (which emit microwaves) when he discovered that a candy bar in his pocket had melted due to the heat emitted by the tube. This discovery was explored further, resulting in the first microwave ovens.

Nice!

The cabinet above the microwave appears to be kind of messy, you may want to clean straighten it out. :)
