Switching from 2x1GB corsair value select, to the Patriot memory in sig, alleviated instantly all the problems i was having overclocking with my DFI Ultra-D.

Overclock increased from 2.4 to 2.74ghz, at much better memory timings (from 3-4-4-8 2t to 2-3-2-5 1t), and i now have no problems at all using all the memory dividers. I am normally an advocate of value ram, because performance memory usually costs a LOT more for very little performance gain. But this LL Patriot memory was only slightly more than the corsair trash, and the other memory in its price range was all much higher latency and usually didnt have a heat spreader.

The corsair was a nightmare, 7 different BIOS, changing memory slots, underclocking and relaxing timings below spec, overvolting, nothing worked. The only dividers i could use were the 333 and 400, any others resulted in no post, even at stock speeds.

Needless to say, i will never buy corsair value memory again. Even ancient DDR333 kingston value ram worked fine OVERCLOCKED to 400 in this board.

Overall, im very impressed with this memory upgrade

i think for 2x1gb modules, the low latency only costs a little more than the value, its good value to spend more
for 2x512, the good stuff is 33-100% more, then it becomes a decision

Cool I bought that same memory for my sons system I am building...

Winchester 3000+ (mine that did 2.66ghz) want at least 2.4ghz for him leave stock or less vcore so temps are cool and fans can be low speed.

Acanthus,
Exactly what patriot kit did you buy and where?
And what settings are you running? (9x310? What divider?)
Thnx for any info you can give. ;)

My Corsair Value Select (2x1gb) ran fine in my N-force3 rig and its going back into that setup!
I'm experiencing the EXACT same issues as you did with this ram and my DFI board. (166 or 200 and thats it EVERYTHING else fails!) :|

Hasn't there been a lot of issues specifically with Corsair Value RAM and DFI boards? IIRC those work fine apart but together can give you the blues.

Nope, don't own either, just have read about it.

Yes, but i already had my ram before i got the DFI board.

Did a search on here and DFi street and got the impression that people got the ram to work with some extra effort/tuning. ( i now assume they were all using 512 sticks?)

Acanthus was the ONLY person i've ever seen post about not being able to use dividers at ALL with the ram. (valuselect 2x1gb)
Thats even with the ram in spec or below spec, it just plain DOESNT WORK.

Anywhooo....this thread is good info for those doing searches about Corsair Value Select (2x1gb) and the DFI boards.

i spend a good deal of time on DFI-street....and i have seen nothing but trouble with Corsair...some have gotten it to work, but many have abandoned it...the RAM is fine, dont get me wrong, just doesnt mike the NF4...*shrug*

I believe PDP kits are based off of Samsung TCCD or Infineon BE-5 chips. See how high you can go with the RAM ;)

Golly, you mean the cheapest, budget-oriented RAM *gasp* might not be meant for overclocking and extreme performance? SHOCK AND HORROR.

It's not just that. Corsair Value Ram doesnt work well with the DFI LP NF4s at all, even at stock.

Uhhhh....thats what dividers are for.

As said before, it doesnt work at stock speeds.

Not true. Though, I'm sure, there are some people out there that have not been able to get it to work no matter what... I still believe it's possible with tweaking.

I bought my DFI with Corsair VS (2x512) back before it was a known issue (January). It wasn't easy to get it to work, but DFI has a plethora of options in the BIOS. I got it working on not only 1, but 2 rigs.

Recently, my dad made the upgrade to 2x 1GB modules (of Patriot) and gave his 2x 512 Corsair VS to me. I have to admit, I was worried about getting 4x512 Corsair VS to work in the DFI... with a Winnie of all things.

Right now, it's 100% stable at 250 * 9x with a /150. 2250mhz with ram at 187mhz. I'm afraid if I push it much higher, I could harm the memory controller on the Winnie.

Sure, better memory would make things easier. So would a Venice for that matter. And, if someone is buying new ram, I wouldn't suggest the Corsair VS. But for those who have it and assume they can't get it to work are not trying hard enough.
