Just wanted to say hi to everyone here. I'm a recovering SETI addict looking for my nect DC fix 🙂 . I use to crunch for BP6.com but I refuse to run BOINC on my systems. So I'm looking for something else to work on. Anyone here know for sure if Folding@home is going to switch over totally to BOINC or not?

Hello Bill, welcome to the TeAm Anandtech Forum. 😀

We have lots of DC projects and only a handful are BOINC. I'm sure we have something for you. 😉 🙂

Hope you see you more often.

Welcome to AnandTech Billl

F@H boinc is in addition to the original (and not even accepting general enrollment atm.) I haven't heard anything about a 'switchover' like SETI did.

Some recent activity in DPAD also. Both great non-boinc projects. I'm sure there are several others. We do a little of everything here.

Make yourself at home

Welcome Bill. 🙂

I used to be very anti-BOINC, but since alot of bugs and other system issues were addressed, I'm actually rather liking it. 🙂

Welcome to the forums Billl 🙂
I recognize your handle from the S@H forums, unless there's 2(or more) of you.

It's my understanding that F@H under BOINC will only be a suppliment to the F@H that's already going on. F@H is it is now will continue.

Most of my info came from this thread.

If you're thinking of trying F@H, this thread Has some good info on setting up.

Hello Billl and welcome to the TeAm and the DC forum 🙂

The people at F@H say that their BOINC client will be in addition to the main F@H client. They are still improving that client and (supposedly soon) will have a new version with a bunch of handy features.

They expect most of their work to still be done with their regular client.

Mine would show I crunched over 50,000 WU's. I posted a few times there.

Welcome! to Team Anandtech! 😀

I've decided to try out F@H, but there are many projects to choose from! 😀

Ok guys a quick question here. Since you don't have to register with Stanford to start crunching. Does it really matter if you use the same name as someone else? I did a search on Bill and their is a page of them. And then I did one on Billl, my prefered crunching name and some guy from 2002 did like one unit and quit. Any reason I shouldn't use that name?

I know that names could be duplicated in Seti-Classic. We had many on our own team.

Best way to find out is to try it. 🙂
