New MCI "Neighborhood" Ads make me sick.

These ads really bother me. They try to wax patriotic with all this flowery prose about how it's a human right to have free long distance and seem to imply that we are all being put down needlessly by paying long distance charges.

What is it with companies trying to play on our patriotic emotions after an incident as horrible as Sept 11th?

I will never do business with MCI again.

BTW, they talk about how long distance charges are bullshit, apparently they don't understand that long distance charges were historically used to subsidize affordable local phone service for all of the people that lived in rural areas. Apparently it would be better in MCI's eyes if we only wired up urban areas and told all the farmers, and other folks who live in the country to spend $1000 for a satellite dish if they want to make a phone call.

Sorry, but stuff like this (distortion of the facts) burns my a**

Don't know about their commercials, but when it comes to Frame Relay or ATM, MCI Customer Service 0wnz any other provider.

<< That might be the case, but I'm disappointed in any company that tries to cash in on patriotism to sell their CRAP. >>

I haven't seen them quite go to the extent that these ads do.

Sorry, but I'm not up in arms about paying long distance charges... I don't put it on the same footing as the rights of life, liberty and happiness.

I don't think Chevy's ads are nearly as obnoxious... the only other one I can think of that is as bad as this one is the stupid local used car dealer saying how buying a used car is good for the economy and therefore patriotic.
