nope.. my car doesn't have keyless entry. :(
that's the next trim level up.. iTouring.

My 2007 Hyundai Sonata doesn't have keyless entry but it does have auto locking doors. If Mazda has those features link, they aren't they sharpest tool in the garage.

If you're worried about your battery, get something like this?

That's pretty idiotic, why would you offer a vehicle with push button start but no keyless entry? Having one but not the other completely defeats the purpose and concept of never having to touch the key. I would easily forget to lock it all the time too, then again I'm used to driving a soft top Jeep that I never lock anyway. Whenever I drive another vehicle I usually forget to lock/unlock it regardless...

It does have keyless entry...the OP forgets to push "lock" on the remote.

yup, because of the electronic ignition, the key isn't in my hand when I leave the car.
it stays in my pocket so i don't think about it.
my focus is on the destination after i leave the car.

with a regular ignition where you have to put the key in and turn to start the car, the key will be in my hand when I leave the car. its a physical reminder.

never thought I have to re-train myself to lock a car.
lol

2015 mazda3 iSport hatchback

it has electronic ignition, which means my keys stay in my pocket.
all my previous cars I had to put the key in the ignition.

the problem is since the keys aren't in my hands when I leave the car, I forget to press the button to lock it.
unfortunately, it doesn't have auto-lock.

at least once a week I forget to lock it and remember too late (either on the train or at work).
so far no theft.

bought it for $19k out the door. seriously thinking about getting another car because of this and the fact that the cigarette light is ALWAYS ON. (trade in value $13k :( )

suggestions?

SUGGESTION: be a grown up and remember to lock the car?

freeskier is referring to Mazda's advance key system - where you don't need to press the lock/unlock buttons on the keyfob. You just have the keys in your pocket/purse, the car senses the key, and you just press a button to start/stop the car. You'd lock your car by pressing on the door handle.

It's stupid to have a push button start/stop without the advance key. It's probably a cost cutting measure, like someone said. But seriously OP, it's not difficult to lock your car. With the advance key system, you'd be pressing on the door handle anyways!

wiat.. what?
even w/the advanced keyless system, I need to press the door handle to auto-lock?

doesn't that defeat the purpose of 'auto' lock?

I think he's confused. You press the door handle to unlock the car. It's SUPPOSED to auto-lock when you walk away, if the feature is enabled. But it doesn't, not 100% of the time.

I always just hit the lock on the door after I reach for the handle to open my door. Pull handle to open door, hit lock button on door. It's just a habit now.

As mentioned that's not what keyless entry is...

In a general sense, keyless entry means you don't have to touch the key at all. The vehicle will sense the fob is near, depending on the vehicle there might be a button on the door handle you press to unlock/lock. Some will sense your hand on the handle and unlock. Then, when you leave, it auto locks.

Have you guys never used this in your cars? I've had 3 cars with this, and this is how they all work - you keep the keys in your pocket, grab the door handles/press a button (it unlocks by sensing the key is nearby), you get in the car, foot on brake, press start/stop button to start the car, and then drive. Once you get to your destination, open door (remember key still in your pockets), close door, press the button on the door to lock. Here's a video to illustrate:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFHCvueaBog

Some cars may or may not have the auto-lock feature where if you forget to lock your doors (after you get to your destination), they will do it for you. None of the three cars that I have had with this technology do this (three different brands). The Mazda system can automatically lock the doors as you walk away (or at least that's how the video makes it out to be)

Rather than losing $6k, why not just have an aftermarket system installed for a few hundred bucks? Google around for PKE systems (passive keyless entry). For example, the iKey-RS system from Digital Guard Dawg is on sale for $350:

http://www.digitalguarddawg.com/automobiles-trucks/ikey-keyless-go-systems/ikey-2go-keyless-ikey-rs

It has auto-lock when you walk away (and can also arm the security system automatically once you leave the proximity of the car). See page 8:

http://www.installer.com/pdf/ikey-rs.pdf

Advanced Keys has a similar product:

http://www.advancedkeys.com/products.htm

Innovation Ignition Systems has one that uses keyfobs: (the two above use thick business card-style fobs)

http://www.innovativeignitionsystems.com/#!push-button-start-systems/c1cwv

Directed/Viper used to make one too, I think it's still available on Amazon. My Jeep has PKE from the factory, it's awesome - it unlocks when I walk up, I push the button & drive, and locks when I leave. I don't have to push any buttons on the handles or anything, just pull the door handle open, it's great!

You got into the habit of locking all previous cars, but now you all of a sudden can't remember to hit the lock button on the door or on the fob?

Can't help you. Sounds like you'll never be able to buy a new car again because they're all moving towards similar systems.

You're speaking of a proximity system. Keyless entry (lock/unlock from a key fob) has been around far, far longer than proximity keys.

Alright, alright. Technicalities aside I'll give you that one.

You need to set your mind on every other destination you'll be walking to if you don't lock the doors.

I don't see much of a problem. Just hit the lock button in the door frame as soon as you exit the car.

I have the same issue on Mondays and Fridays. Mondays because I need to take my laptop out of the back of my car otw into work. Fridays because I take it out on my way home.

Since there's no lock button on the rear door and locking with the button inside the driver's door would just require having to unlock again to open the rear door, there are times I walk away without going back to the driver door to hit lock.

What a pain. At least I live in a nice area.

Same with my Camry but I just have to remember to touch the sensor on door handle after I shut the door and it locks all four doors and arms the alarm system. Or I could use the buttons on the key fob.
