New MX-5 Roadster Coupe
Mazda has chosen the British International Motor Show to lift the lid on its latest MX-5. The MX-5 Roadster Coupe has a retractable folding hard-top similar to a Mercedes SLK's.

However, unlike the SLK, the Mazda's roof does not take up the whole of the boot. Folding up into a small space just behind the seats.

The boot of the MX-5 Roadster Coupe remains a separate area.

Prices for the new MX-5 model will be unveiled at the British show, which starts on July 19.

How much weight is added?

Only one Nicole Ritchie, or 75 pounds.

That's commendable. I'm shocked that the weight difference between a Club Spec and a Grand Touring is only around 50lbs.

That's pretty awesome.
My Miata was pretty damn loud inside with the unlined top up and this would certainly have made a difference.

I don't see any differences in this car with any other Miata.

no soft top. looks like a coupe with the top up and a convertible with it down. plus it should be stiffer, safer, and quieter than the soft top. there should be more head room as well.

Look up. I mean I'm not trying to discredit the car. They are nice, just not my style, but it's weird how they've never really redesigned the body and people still get a super hardon over them.

I don't get how they are claiming the SLK roof takes up the whole trunk. It doesn't. In fact, it only minimally reduces space it just requires much more careful packing to make sure the divider will go down, and that's only if you want to have the top down. So far trunk space hasn't been a problem for me.... its the lack of a goddamn backseat.

That's part of the appeal. Most of the advancements have been in the technology, not the appearance. The appearance of the miata works and there is no reason to change it. In fact, the 3rd generation actually looks more like the 1st gen than it does the 2nd gen. Mazda didn?t want the miata to sway too far from its roots. The dash of the 3rd gen is pretty much a modernized version of the very original 1990 miata. They had to change it in 94 to accommodate the large passenger airbag that was added. Now they have the technology go back to the original dash and keep the passenger airbag.

While it?s true, by keeping the original design it probably won?t be attracting that many new buyers but it will keep the original fans, and there are a lot of them! The 3rd gen miata has a lot of improvements over the original however, many of which are safety improvements including safer airbags (airbags in the early 90s were pretty dangerous), side airbags and built-in rollbars. Then of course there is the bigger engine with more horsepower and torque while at the same time maintaining the amazing handling and near 50/50 weight distribution which the miata is known for. There are a lot of other improvements they?ve made to the car that were long overdue such as an adjustable steering wheel.

the folding hardtop is a brand new feature...you must be referring to the introduction of the NC Miata with a conventional ragtop
