New Maxtor Hard Drive... How should i go about this?

I just got my new Maxtor 250gb in the mail.... Its replacing my 80gb WD (which is going to become the slave)

Should i boot to MaxBlast and use it to set up the partitions? Or should i just use the built into Windows XP Install partition section....

I had weird issues using PQ Magic/Norton Ghost imaging into partitions set up by non FDISK/Windows disk manager.

I've never personally used maxblast off a floppy on fresh install but I have used maxblast windows version installed app.

all i can say is maxblast has user-friendly interface.

on fresh OS install though, windows will detect it as unknown third party created partition so you're better off partitioning it as part of fresh xp install.

Why are you making the old 80gig HDD the slave? is it slower?

I already have a 160gig and now i am too adding the 250gig matxor but i am just gonna stick it in my comp and use it only for vid files and mp3s.

so for me, the 160gig is windows and apps and whatnot

and 250gig is just for vid files and mp3s

I never use Maxblast or similar either. One thing it is good for is checking a HDD. When my last HDD failed (a Maxtor 80GB) I ran this and found that the read verify failed. This kind of info is great when trying to get an RMA.

There are a bunch of tests it does, and you do not have to use Maxblast to setup the HDD for it to work.

Who said im a newb at building a computer, ass.

I was asking if there is any benefit to using it, not my fault i've only dealt with smaller (sub 137gb) WD drives in the past.
