I knew there could only be one Modeps. I saw you make this comment over at TUAW. Don't feel too bad man, I just got my blackbook last Monday. :p

We can both cry together :( It may not be a huge update, but its an update nonetheless that Megatomic and I missed by very small windows.

Thanks for recognizing me. I rarely comment there, but I was sad.

Or wait for a LED MB :(

Unless you need pro features (dual-link DVI, ExpressCard, FW800, etc.), then get a MB.

Well i've decided to not consider the MB until the LED comes out... I just really dislike the CCFL MB screen right now for some reason, and most CCFL screens. The brightness seems uneven even when looking straight on the menubar (top) and the dock (bottom) never seem to be the evenly bright, and I can see it vary as I rock the screen. Just kinda bugs me.

Also, I'm thinking the LED backlights might help with my headaches. Dunno if thats necessarily CCFL related, but office florescent lights around the office as well as CFL's around the home seem to effect me as well.

I'm thinking i may just jump for the 2.2ghz MBP LED. I played with one in an apple store today and found my favorite feature over the MB to simply be the resolution. Not a huge difference, but I didn't feel as cramped. My old laptop is a 12" X60 Tablet with SXGA+ (1400x1050), so the 1280x800 of the MB was just a bit small.

The ONLY thing I didn't care for on the MBP was the keyboard feel, way too soft for me. I love the MB/MBA keyboard, but I dunno.

I never understood why everybody loves the MBP keyboard and calls it "professional" and whatnot...it felt like every other laptop keyboard out there. Personally I love the chichlet keys on the 13" MB; I think they should add it to the 15" and 17".

It's a personal taste thing. I loooooove the feel of my Powerbook keyboard. Between that and my slimline Bluetooth DiNovo keyboard, it's a chore to type on anything else.

Does that keyboard work with OS X? It looks incredible. (The DiNovo )

This is so true! I don't mind the MBP keyboard, but I actually prefer the feel of the MB keys over the MBP, so I'm hoping that they update (or give me the option) in the next refresh.

I'd love to see a 12" PowerBook-style, maybe along the design character of the MacBook Air.

You read my mind.

12" MBP would be my perfect laptop :(

Ahh, no wonder you're defending the last days of the PowerBook G4 ad nauseam. ;) I didn't get a MBP until the C2D refresh but all of them are better than any previous PowerBook. Sure, the first MBP was not heavy on new features but that doesn't make the last PB G4 the last major update, as you put it.

Switching from mobile G4 to "Yonah" was a 2-generation jump, so that trumps everything else that wasn't upgraded or even the features that you pointed out were removed. The rev. A MBP had a reputation for running too hot but nobody else can objectively call it "crippled" in comparison to even a top-end PowerBook.

Cuz I still have a Powerbook? Hey, I want a new one, easily have the money for one, and could possibly greatly benefit from having one, because of software that might run under OSX with an Intel chip.

So I'm not defending anything. I hate the fact I have a G4. I hate the fact I have 512megs of ram. I hate how hot it gets. I don't really mind the fact it's 1.6" think or whatever, but I wouldn't mind 1". I have no illusions; the new systems are better. They're just not that much different. That's the point.

They look out all the ports. Then they put them back in. But took out dual layer. Then they put that back in. They added the remote/Frontrow. Then took out the remote. Then they added LED screens. And now multitouch. My whole point was, the ports, dual layer and all that existed 2+ years ago. Sure, they introduced Magsafe and the iSight, but that was 2 years ago. So in two years, we've "added" LED screens and multitouch. I just wanted more than that.

So I'll wait until I get it. Maybe I'll be waiting forever, but I doubt it. Especially with Intel going to kill of Santa Rosa, and Montevina looking pretty good (and looking like it'lll come soon!) But either way, since I don't really do anything with my G4 other than Web and Word, I don't really care.

So, in short:
- I'm not in "love" with my G4. I'd certainly rather have a newer machine.
- Other than "specs", which other companies are constantly refreshing (I'm not going to give Apple a ton of credit for putting more ram in their laptops), there really isn't much new under the sun with the MBPs, so I'll wait.

To answer someone's previous question, the DiNovo Keeyboard is for my PC. It does, actually, feel very similar to a Powerbook/MBP keyboard. I would assume, since it's bluetooth, that it'd work, but I've never tried. The mouse that comes with it worked, even under Expose somewhat.

I think I'm jaded from coming from the Windows crowd, but I like the upgrades that they've done. But then again, I'm used to Windows systems just getting speed improvements with little extra in terms of UI. The MBP is great the way it is IMO, and the only thing I really would like is a higher res LCD and extra USB ports, which they added in the most recent build. Other than that I'm fairly happy with my machine.

I completely understand what you're saying though, and I hope that they deliver on some more innovation shortly. I think the Air is a step in the right direction as far as elegance, but I hope they don't go further down the road of a closed system.
