Yup. The Mac Minis are lackluster. The iMacs, I thought were Corei7, but aren't.. and you lose Ghz on the MacPros. Ugh... I hate that I love OS X.

Lackluster?? 9400m, better CPU, 4GB RAM, 5 USB, FW800, 802.11n, standard Bluetooth & DVD burner on both models...I think that's great! I mean, what else can they really do? Change the case? There's no other options left for a unit this small

The only other thing I'd have liked is a blu-ray drive. The mini would then be the PERFECT HTPC.

Note: They also have a slimline USB player for 1/10th the price - $99 USB Bluray Player

Except you still couldn't watch a blu-ray movie in OSX...

Single socket LGA1366 server broads are about $250, 3gb ECC DDR3 about $100, Geforce GT 150 about $150, case and PSU about $250, 640gb HDD about $70, DVD around $50, keyboard and mouse $50, OS X 10.5 $129. So about $2000 for the entire package if you built a hackintosh, unless I'm missing something. 20% markup is impressive. Most Mac Pros were comparable in price to PC offerings but yeah, this one is overpriced by a significant margin. The hardware specs for the Pro aren't as impressive as they once were either. 3gb of RAM is chintzy for a pro system.

They're only using a Xeon 5550 in systems that ship with 2 processors. Otherwise they're using the 1P version, the 3550, in systems with a single processor, since they can now use the same socket. The 1P versions are priced no differently than the i7 parts (they're identical, save for ECC being enabled). Worse yet, you can't drop in a second processor in the future since the first processor doesn't have a second QPI link necessary for 2P. This is of course assuming the 1P systems are still using the 2P board, which seems likely.

I'd imagine you're waiting until 2010 then. I get the distinct impression Apple isn't going to refresh again until the i5 ships.

You're probably correct. I'll wait until 2010 then.

I'll probably sell my 2006 24" C2D 2.33 in the summer before my AppleCare runs out, and just use my MacBook in the interim.

Yea.. as much as I like the new designs, etc... I have no compelling reason to upgrade my current MacBook Pro. I might shave a few secs off my rendering times, etc... but Apple really needs to push their tech forward. I feel like we've seen the C2D in machines for far too long.

There's nothing they can do about that. The mobile i7 is not ready yet, so it's C2 chips unless you want them to start selling G4s again.

Not only that, but...every upgrade is ALWAYS incremental. It's only an upgrade if you wait a few generations, at minimum.
