Yet another piece of misinformation. ALL automakers have on-board computers. ALL of them. Not just luxury makes, ALL of them. And they have for the past 20+ years.

Maybe I used wrong terms. I'm yet to see Toyota or Honda that allows me to program my radio stations, instrument cluster, temparature control and various functions through the display on the dashboard. I don't think they detect malfunctions and report them to the user either.

That's a lot better than say Lincolns that only have 4,500 components that can malfunction with an average number of malfunctions per N amount of cars at 18.

Just saying, ok, 10 BMWs and 10 Lincolns, problems reported are 21 to 18. Lincolns are built better. That would not be an accurate statement.

That's no excuse, it all comes down to problems per car. And yes that would mean Lincolns are built better, since *they're more reliable*

I don't get why people need to make excuses for manufacturers when their cars aren't up to snuff.

I'm talking from personal experience. I drive a Mercedes. My boss also drives an MB. Another coworker has BMW and a friend of mine has an Audi. I realize that's a very small sample size, yet we don't have any more or less problems with our cars than people driving Japanese cars. As I mentioned in my previous post, I've actually had better experience servicing my MB, than the Camry I owned previously.

I'm just expressing my brand loyalty in my own way. Surely I wouldn't be doing that if I had a bad experience like most articles suggest. In fact, I'm yet to meet a single luxury brand owner who would say: "My car is junk, I'm going to get a Lexus or Acura next time"

A sample size of 4 doesn't compare to a sample size of thousands. Many people who drive MB's and BMW's do so for status (which is lame) and don't care about reliability since they weren't the logical thinking type to begin with.

If I am, why won't you correct me? Instead of saying "holy lord are you ingorant or what" Last I checked neither of the japanese automakers had any of that functionality.

The things that bring down the Euro models is their electronics technology. They suck at it. They have great drive trains/transmissions/ and engines though. Its the electronic parts that they always have trouble with and here lately they keep throwing more electronics into their cars.

IE: Navigation units/ I-Drive / Electronic steering / Electronic Throttle / Electronic sensors that monitor the engine....etc.

Fine, let's agree to disagree. Next time you buy a car you get American or Japanese and I will stick to German.

Ahhh, no. You started this with an attempt at a cheap-shot, and I proved you to be wrong. Just so you don't try to weasel your way out of this, I'll include what you said here:

I said "German + Engineering = lower reliability than even Ford and Chevy. But it still carries the high sticker price for that poor engineering."

Then you replied with:

"Redneck alert! J/k, you're still entitled to you opinion, no matter how wrong it is."

You tried tell me that I'm wrong, at which point I produced evidence to support my case. Most German cars are in fact less reliable (much less in fact) than Toyotas and Hondas, and even Ford and Chevy.

Don't try to weasel your way out of your statements. (I love it how quickly people try to backpedal when you prove their point wrong)

missing link to performance numbers. Oh ..........My
5 liters
507 BHP

The new seven-speed SMG gearbox allows gears to be changed using the central gearshift lever or via paddles mounted on the steering wheel. Compared to the previous SMG transmission, gear change times are increased by 20 per cent, which is incredibly impressive, considering the the previous version was remarkably quick anyway.
I know the relaibilty is not the same as our honda. I don't care. I want to drive it!

your right, people don't buy ford or chevy for status because they are crap. Maybe german cars lack in reliability but in my opinion they crush ford and chevy in interior design, performance, stylying, resale value, service. Good job trolling up the thread. Go start a Ford rules thread or something.

You're pretty much dripping with jealousy after a statement like that. Just because you can't afford a certain car doesn't mean your a genius for buying a ford taurus or a civic or whatever.

I could buy one if I wanted one. I don't want one. Most of the people on this board are college age kids without much money, so to them, if they drive a Mercedes they're really flaunting money.

I was that age about 10 years ago, and I'm past that stage in my life. I already have a career and have to argue with kiddies on here trying to tell me that I'd never get the job that I currently have, or argue with people trying to tell me about my own car. That's just young and/or inexperienced people talking. I've moved on to a more stable life. It feels good not being in debt and not having to make credit card/car payments. I don't live beyond my means.

But since most Americans are knee-high in debt, I'm sure they'll have money management tips for me.

Ok, just make sure you have AAA's number with you in case your car earns its reliability rating.

That and the routine maintenance being free is like healthcare being free in some countries.
