New Lytro camera - take a picture, focus anywhere later

Yeah, I remember reading about lytro a while back. Very slick. It's going to take a while for the computing power to really catch up to the capabilities provided by this new technique, but it's slick.
 
What if I don't want a picture with essentially zero depth of field? I get that it's a cool thing to refocus your pictures on any point, but that's not a desirable thing in every picture. Niche product at best.
 
WHy can't it just focus EVERYTHING in the picture instead of just a selected area?

heh good point. I'm not sold on it. Even more so because of the weird camera design.
 
Not that impressive. In the pictures with a lot of depth of field, the far background is never that clear. Like the faces in the mount rushmore pic.... if those came out crystal clear then it would be more impressive
