<sigh>

I had always hoped to see Patrick Stewart as Gandalf...
:(

I never did get much support for my casting choice of George "Gheorghe" Muresan as Aragorn either...

LOL

that wasn't a cave troll, wasn't that the balrog in the mines of moria? or was it just an orc? I'm pretty sure that was the mines they were in...

No, that was NOT the balrog. That was the cave troll that breaks into the room with the well.

The Balrog doesn't appear until much later - one of the latter images in the trailer shows the party in an open cavern surrounded by a huge number of orcs. The Balrog shows up there, but isn't seen on screen (from what I've read) until a little later (on the bridge, as it should be).

Some spoilers posted from people who were treated to one of the screenings (i.e. Cannes) indicated that the Balrog should make a very nice impression - none of this crappy lion's head stuff - I can't remember if it is going to have wings though, anybody remember?

Balrog won't appear until the movie. There is no way that will be given away.

(Drooling).

Can't wait any longer. I may have to sign off Anandtech just to go reread yet again LOTR!!!!!

Well, instead of getting Professor X, you get Magneto!

Hey man, don't I know it - I can't believe nobody took that suggestion seriously!

There must be something wrong with me because I was deeply disappointed in the trailer: too rapid! Flash, one scene, flash, another, flash, next...it's too fast, you can't see any detail when each scene lasts only 2 seconds (though the small QuickTime window doesn't help). They are trying to shove too much into 30 seconds. I'm sure it looks better on the television.

mithrandir, that's why you have to watch it frame by frame like I did...you even catch a VERY short glimpse of Gollum. It's IMPOSSIBLE to catch it without going frame by frame.
